tl;dr version: Family, for three generations, has breast cancer. Woman gets pregnant. Scientists remove a certain gene. Baby will never get breast cancer. Freaking awesome. Sauce
Science is amazing, but try not to give too much credit. The progeny of this family can still develop breast cancer from other factors: Also, the scientists didn't directly remove the gene; it was a process where many embryos were created and the one that didn't have the altered BRCA1 gene was allowed to develop. Of course, it is still wonderful that, thanks to science, the children of this family will have a greatly reduced chance of developing breast cancer in the future.
You do realize of course that preventing those genetic traits requires the removal of those genes, i.e. 'tainted' embryos must be aborted. That's a giant moral can of worms. Another major can of worms is the fact that it could be classified as eugenics. Regardless I think it's pretty good.
