I watched the computer play in a replay and I noticed in the beginning when it sends its initial probes to work it sends each one of them to a different crystal. How do you do that? Is there a hotkey ? I usually select all of them and send them to a crystal , then they will move to separate crystals by themselves. I figured you can win a second or two just by doing that. Thanks in advance.

After you sent your workers out you shift+click on one of them in the group display and right-click a different patch of minerals. It's not hard to get a couple in before they arrive.

Yeah it's called splitting and it was more important in BW. Now that we have auto-mine, even some of the pros don't bother with it.

you are wasting your time trying to split individually.

    i have mentioned before:

noob: send all workers to one patch

scrub: send 2 groups of 3 to two different patches

pro: send 3 groups of 2

any more than that, you are wasting time.
NOTE: many people don't realize there is no point in having more than 16 workers on minerals (2 per patch).

what I do when the game starts, I select 3 send to a patch and as their moving I move one to a different patch. repeat for second group of 3.

then as i'm producing workers, i set rally points to different patches based on how many are on each patch. but yeah, like cHow said, don't spend too much time / worry about it too much.

It would also be a lot more difficult to do in SC2 since there is an extra starting worker and workers begin on the mineral side of your command center/nexus/hatchery (whereas they used to start on the opposite side).
