Some people had asked to see this for informational reasons, so here you are! ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Monthly Discussion Report Platinum Blizzard RTS Fan Site Program Name: Month/Year of Report: 09/07 Fan Site Name: Starcraft 2 Forum Fan Site URL: http://www.starcraft2forum.org Monthly Topic: The Protoss Mothership Top 5 Feedback Concerns: 1. Thor Mobility – There has been an animated discussion about the need for more mobility with the Thor. Most feel that it needs a way to be transported. The most popular suggestion has been that the Thor have a liftoff mechanic similar to Terran structures. It would obviously have no firing capabilities and a reduction in armor while in this state. 2. Firebat/Reaper Combo – Since the announcement that the Firebat is again being tested in a build, this issue has been revived. The general consensus is that there should be no Firebat, and that the Reaper should either have a flamethrower upgrade from its original state, or it should have flamethrowers initially and then have a jump pack upgrade. This would allow the Reaper to fulfill the Firebat’s specialized anti-infantry role while combining two units into one. 3. In the original StarCraft, when faced with a number of cannons supported by a pylon, it was almost always more efficient to attack the cannons than the pylon. However, it is the general opinion on our forum that the pylon should be a weakness and strategic hinge for the Protoss, especially with the introduction of the Phase Prism. The pylons need to be much weaker than they were in StarCraft in order to make it more appealing to attack them rather than the buildings they support. 4. Most posters are of the opinion the the Stasis Orb is inadequate in its design and function. Most are calling for the unit to be returned to its original form as the Star Relic air unit and the reinstatement of a number of its abilities. In lieu of the possibility of the Mothership being returned to a "super-unit" and the removal of its cloaking abilities, it is preferred that the cloaking ability be conferred upon the Star Relic/Stasis Orb. Its other abilities were met with similarly positive opinions. 5. Protoss Colored Psi – While there has been some positive reaction to this addition, most players feel that the Protoss pylons and Archons should remain the traditional blue. With the archons, it has been suggested a number of times that there be “rotators†similar to those in the original game which circle the Archon. The reaction to Psi weapons changing colors was positive. Top 5 Fan Site Questions from your Site: 1. There has been some curiosity regarding the possible day and night effects in Starcraft 2 and its impact on gameplay. What are your current plans for this mechanic? 2. There has been some concern regarding the usage of the nano-repair and the AoE defensive matrix by the Nomad. Will the nano-repair be a repeatable usage ability or will it have a cooldown, and will the defensive matrix apply to enemy units within its AoE? 3. What changes have been experimented with or instated for unit movement AI? 4. Will the units attack and armor classes still be of the same type that they were in the original game? For instance, would the Mutalisk still be classed as a "small" unit? 5. There are a large number of mobile units in Starcraft 2. Some can even climb cliffs, such as the Reaper and Colossus. Will these units be able to "step" or "jump" over buildings and minerals as well?
Wow, I didn't know this existed. I think this is a great way to give Blizzard an idea of what we are all thinking. The very fact that it is well organized is helpful to everyone. If we can get other sites to implement this then I think Blizz would really enjoy it. Anyways, I would really like to see these in the future after they are sent out. If anything, it helps me see what discussions I have missed.
Actually, all sites are already strongly urged to participate in this program by making reports very similar to this one. I'm unsure of how well they put theirs together or whether they could hope to match our discussion abilities. However, if you guys would like to see this discussion, I will post it within a couple of days of its submission. I would post it sooner but I'd be afraid other forums would like a free report to submit.
Thank you for posting this. Seems like the actuall Batch (17) was really intended to answer our issues this time (while minimizing information leakage of course). LT, since it is called Monthly Discussion Report I think we might figure that out on our own, maybe...
I'll show it every month a couple days after submission, once Blizzard will no longer accept reports from that month.
OK Thanks. I think you forgot something in that report but I can't remember what.... EDIT: Ahhh! Now I remember. You should have said that nobody likes the Nomad and that it should be scrapped. Or you said that in a report before?
@ LT , we have already submitted (from the month before) a report that was very critical of the Nomad. We outright called for a new model. Unfortunately I don't have that report as I didn't write it. But just know that whatever idea you submit on the forum, especially in the Monthly Discussion, will probably make it into one of the two reports that are submitted. On the other hand, there isn't all that much new information, so it's kind of tough to put together a brand new report on brand new issues. I will most likely be including whatever anyone has a concern with as well as some concerns that were left out of last month's report due to space issues.
The October discussion of the month can be seen here http://www.starcraft2forum.org/forums/index.php?topic=3043.0 Please add your comments and opinions on what you would like to see for it in that thread. We will compile a list of things and send it to Blizzard at the end of the month.
Nah, it's just part of the job and I get rewarded with the responsibility and being able to submit such a report.
