    i am just designing this game(not even that, just spamming ideas for it), not actually making it

    hiya people, this is your neighbourhood spammer, ijffdrie, i recently had some ideas for a Shadowangel MMO and i am gone post them here.
    ill do a Q&A with my self




    what is shadowangel?
    shadowangel was an idea i had a while ago for a virtual series, meaning that it is only a script without the series, but i never made the virtual series, though you can appreciate some character designs in the yo... thread

    is this a serious or a spammy thread?

    okay seriously, what kind of MMO will it be?
    a fantasy/scifi MMORPG

    there are many MMO's on the market these days, what will make yours special (if it ever gets made)?
    The problem with many modern MMO's is that the battle's are kind of passive, with automated attacks and spells that only involve your character just standing there. I tend to go for a more active gameplay with abilities that actually involve your character.
    I also added a unique system; the game consists of two universe that can be freely switched between in every city in the game. The first universe changes if you do quests or perform certain actions, granting access to special zones and people as the game progresses. The other universe doesnt change and can be used for grinders or people who just need that bit of extra XP or money.
    There are also several other improvements implemented in the game, such as an infinite stacking bag( you can stack each item infinetely, but can only hold a certain amount of different items) instead of the normal system (you can stack each item only a limited number of times, and can only hold a certain amount of different items)
    There is also a bigger diversity among the missions and battles given in game, from commanding an army to stealth missions, and from dropping para-troopers to space battles between two giant fleets with you caught in the middle.
    There is also a minor shooter element in the game, forcing you to aim before firing a ranged weapon or some ranged spells

    I'll cut to the point here, what kind of classes will be in game?
    good question, there will be 6 different classes, though we still have the right to change them when we think they are either unbalanced, do not fit in the game, or are simply impossible to implement, the current build consists of the Lesser Avatar, Death Knight, Sergeant, War Mage, Warlock and the Experimental Subject
    1. The Lesser Avatar(mostly melee) is the most active class in the game, their powers stemming from teh ancient elemental spirits, their abilities can be used, or in many cases, cause a movement. some of their attacks include: Fel fire discs: the caster starts spinning around, hitting all targets around him, while charging a flame at the tip of his weapon(s), and releasing the thus created fire disc after a few seconds
      lightning spin: Character Jumps at a target location and charging the ground with lightning as he lands, damaging all enemies around him.
      whirlweapon: Can only be used whiole moving, the characters charges kinetic energy around his weapon as he moves, and releasing it to create a massive gust of wind, blowing all enemies away
    2. The Death Knight(mostly melee) is a collector of rare artifacts whose attacks come mostly from his equipment. they are the only class capable of equipping every single piece of weapon and armor in the game and have can switch their weapons and armor at any time. this class is a tank with a few strong ranged attacks that do extra damage against heavy targets and buildings. some of the attacks include:
      energy release: (given by a number of melee energy weapons): fires 1 energy bolt/second for a 6 seconds, dealing all energy bonus damage provided by teh weapon to hit enemies, but removes the bonus energy damage from the weapon after teh spell was used for ten seconds
      elemental slam: (provided by most weapons with bonus damage): uses all strength available to hit the enemy with your weapon, giving the opponent a debuff(or debuffs) depending on the kind of bonus damage i.e.: stun(electricity) burn(fire) frozen(water)
    3. The Sergeant(ranged unit) is a unit taht comes in with a handy support team, support abilities and the ability to get some damn fine guns. This unit is capable of making and driving machinery(the other classes only get to drive around during certain missions). This unit can get more support units as he levels up, up to a glorious total of 8. some of his abilities include:
      power shot: Character loads a special kind of ammunition(carried in bag) to fire a shot with special properties
      calling in the thunder: character drops a locator beacon on the ground, giving any nearby bases and/or spaceships an area to attack(effect differs in different areas)
    4. The War Mage(caster) The warmage is your good old fashioned MMO mage, capable of casting several elemental spells, having a low casting time, high damage but low HP, we included this class to attract people who are already playing MMO's. there are several classic spells that return in every single game universe, as well as a few new ones, here is a sample:
      Fire bolt; fires a bolt of fire, that gives the enemy a burn and does direct damage
      earthquake: shakes the earth around the target, slwoing him down and dealing damage
      lightning: fires a spray of ligthning attacks from the hands dealing massive damage
    5. The Warlock(caster) is a magician trained by the demon lords of the seven free cities and have sacrificed their very souls to gain their incredible strength. In game the warlock is a caster that relies upon his surroundings to give him an edge in battle, and he can create runes to empower his spells. his abilities include:
      storm rune: creates a storm rune on the ground, making floating above it possible, also grants a storm charge to all nearby warlocks
      eye of the storm: requires one storm charge, blasts all nearby enemies in random direction and does massive damage to a single random enemy
      4 star strike: requires any 4 charges, drains mana from all surrounding enemies and objects and releases i as damage towards an area
    6. The Experimental Subject(ranged) is a dangerous hybrid of cyborg implaments, magical charges, controlled biological mutations and nanotechnology, granting him temporary speed enhancers, superior reflexes and nanorepair bots, but all at a cost. some of his abilities include:
      nano sentry: releases a few nanobots that allow you to scout the enemy base undetected
      trance: increases block and evasion rate to 99% for ten seconds at the cost of a total mobility loss for those second
      nano-heal: heals all hp and 75% of the block points(instead of getting hit in this game, you mostly block, only like 5% of your hit points is actual life, the rest of the attacks are blocked) of 5 nearby allies, at the cost of losing all of your own block points untill the nano-bots return(roughly 5 seconds)

    i am done for today, tomorrow ill upload the other classes and answer most(if not all) of the questions that are asked

    Cool! are you making the game in your own engine or are you making it with a map editor of some sort?

    You could try and make the game on Gamemaker. The idea is good and it is possible to make MMORPG
    on it.

    okay new questions by myself, since you are too lazy to put any up


    how many factions will there be in the game
    just the one: the clonoian council

    with only 1 faction, how can there be any PvP
    The players will not fight for their own faction, but for other factions,

    since we are lifeless nerds anyway, could you perhaps tell us how the pvp system exactly works
    okay mister lifeless nerd, though it wont be exactly just a little general talking.
    first of all there is an arena tower where people can duel either 1v1, 2v2 or 4v4. this battle takes place in 2 destructible towers that are connected to each other.
    Then there are 3 types of battlegrounds:
    The City map. Since the Clonoian Council isnt allmighty or at least very rich, they allow their soldiers to fight other clans battles in trade for money and part of the loot.(they can still attack each other because a clonoians elite soldier mind has been converted to a near-indestructable material, allowing them to be reborn in a new body, this is expensive, so can only be used for a few soldiers(The Player and a couple of NPC's))
    In a city map, a randomly generated city(yes, i actually thought out how this would be possible and kewl)) is attacked by two clans(the player factions). The players goal is to capture the 5 landing bases spread equally across the map, and then hold it so transports can get there and raid supplies several times. This is a 30 to 50 against 30 to 50 map

    the Space Battle. In exchange for a truce with the prime evils and the demons(they dont know it of each other though) The council has agreed to provide the demons and evils with warriors in their eternal space battles
    The goal of this map is to fly your fighter to one of the three enemy ships, dodging and destroying enemy ships and NPC's. Fight your way to the power core and then destroy that to take out the ship, after that moving on to the next ship.
    this is a 15 vs 15 map

    elemental war. battle between the armies of lightning and the armies of darkness, same reason as the prime evil vs demon battle. this your good old fashioned 10 vs 10 battleground, the target being to destroy the 5 enemy siege machines and stealing the 3 elemental orbs in the enemy base, sorta like capture the flag, but then with a story that makes sense.

    im looking at runescape for some ideas, it actually has quite a few good ideas that arent as fun cause its on the runescape server

    Runescape is a good game with very good ideas when you 1st play it, then it gets repetitive and boring.

    All MMOs will eventually get boring. Grinding is the only thing that keeps MMOs together, its the glue of thier existance.

    so, i am far behind on schedule, so ill give yo u guys a little update, even though you care nothing about any of this crap


    this game will feature a large amount of different quest types to allow for more variety, ill give some examples here.


    Main story quest line
    the main story of the HotU is centered around the Demon Lord Armaggedon, a rogue demon that broke lose from the Oblitorate psychic network, and is persecuted by the Clonoian Council and offworld allies + both the Seven Demon Lord Masters of the Oblitorate network and The Prime Evils united under Cristallus. (roughly 70% of the military power in existance)
    what follows is a quest description from one of the early quests

    quest name: tuning the sensors
    Good job on taking down the Glacitron, soldier. Apparently some of the demon hives dont take our temporary "peace" seriously. Fenix and Remy seriously doubt that this were the commands of the Oblitorate network, but i personally dont trust any of those Freaks. Anyway, i got my commands as well, and apparently mister peacehammer and mister erm.... well you get the point, want to gather some info first. They nearly build their sensor, but they need some sort of high-grade energy conductor to finish it, i already sent all my men to look for it, but they couldnt find anything. Go to the top level for for more info

    in this you first need to get a upper level permit by supplying(bribing) Dark1 with some blood after he subtly mentioned it in a conversation. On the upperlevel you get access to some more minor quests and some shops that you cant afford till the higher levels. Then you meet Fenix and Remy who give you some info about possible power sources, but they need to stay in case another glacitron returns(which actually happens when you are away( there will be a Glacitron body at the bottom of the Simbob base in the story universe))
    the locations are:
    Magnacastle
    Nature Spirit Resort
    The Original arena
    (only the last location you visit will give you a high enough grade powersource)
    Of course there is some monster battles you need to do before getting the powersources

    Big Quest
    In big quests you usually kill Bosses or mini-Bosses. Like in the battlecruiser capture quest you need to kill the Captain and then use his card key to shut off life support and then GTFO.
    Big Quests have less background then the The story line quests and are a bit shorter in duration.

    minor quests
    Minor Quests are just your casual get X items, or kill X monster quests. you know what i mean

    Minor storylines
    These are series of quests that lead to special Rewards like mounts, recipes, kewl armor and such. An example of these is the Partay quest line where you get special delicacies and learn cool new cooking recipes for them.

    training quests
    Training Quests are a requirement to learn a certain skill, so you wont end up with newbs who dont know how to use their attacks. These quests are not to hard, but they are needed before you can use a skill


    there will of course be other kinds of quests, but they wont be featured as much

    (working on more right now)

    yes, only a little more complicated then that, and as you level up, that kind of quests get more difficult

    I don't take bribes, I get paid to provide services others won't, thats not a bribe.
