If you're near death, clone your body, and transfer your mind to the new body... would it still be you? I mean, would it be the same consciousness, or rather a perfect copy, which THINKS it's the same consciousness?

I personally find this intriguing. Nobody would ever notice anything from it, even though it happens all the time.

When you copy a sheet of paper in a good printer, you should not be able to note the difference.
If it is made of the same ink and with the same paper, it will be a perfect lookalike.
But it is made of another material. Therefore, i conclude, that it not is you if you get transferred, unless we discover a soul inside the human body that we can transfer with it.
IF we had a soul we could transfer with it, you could say the brain is just the medium the soul controls, and the brain controls the body.
But i have seen no evidence suggesting a soul, or evidence suggesting there is no soul in a human being.

Unless you want to be an *** and redefine 'you' in a very specific way then yes, it is you.

I think it depends on how the transfer its done.

If the brain is fine and is implanted in a new body, it would still be you since the brain is what stores and dictates your actions and memories.

However, if the brain is too damaged and the memories had to be copied into a new brain and body, it would be a lookalike that thinks it is the same as the original.

If it's a transfer, it's you. If it's a copy, it's not, but no one (including "you" - the copy) will see any difference, so it doesn't matter either way.

btw. You just gave me a very VERY bad mental image with this topic :/

I'm thinking its more about what would it feel like to you? If after the transfer would you consciously be there? Or would it just be another being that is an exact copy. Sure might have the same memories, same tendencies, and same attitude. But from a first person perspective could it be you?
