Holy crap. Do you know how freaking huge those areas are. That's impossible. You would be able to see it from freaking space!

Better harvest some helium-10 from the moon. Fusion with no radiactive waste, and 100 kg is enough to power a huge city like LA for a year. Now try to get it here, lol. (Google it and have fun finding out how much dirt they have to filter for that. To bad helium-10 is the only option.)

    Let's get going

but if the box in the saharan desert is 1/4 of the total, and it is 1/16 of the desert, couldn't we build all in the deset?

Supahboih read what you've just said. I hope I don't need to point out the problem with that.

i think you forget that the earth is a rotating object. If you forgot that, then u would have to factor up the area with something like 2.

Ow crap, I was thinking about those things they alreay have in the desert. With those mirrors. It superheats a liquid to a point that it even keeps boiling at night. That makes sure that it also works at night.

when they can make 100% safe nuclear power plants, then they can make everything :p

Erm, it's a couple miles deeper then that on most points. Or they have to make it go through the eastern part of Russia or something. That should shorten the part it has to go underwater.

Did anyone in here miss out on their physics lessons? Am I the onlyone who sees a problem with having on power plant with power lines branching into the entire world?

    One word: Resistance.

Kinda left that out. When submerged there isn't any air around the cable. It *should* be able to cross that kind of a distance without to much resistance. But even if that's the case, and you can store power for the night, why go through all the trouble?

However, you DO need power from the other side of the world at some point. I thinks it's ridiculous to think that even those mirror plants can store enough power for when it gets dark. So in short: only using solar power kinda sucks. :p

Never bet on a single horse.

People should start with purchasing hydrogen powered cars. They have been available for quite some time now. Buying less wooden furniture also isn't such a bad idea. People usually think to big. Every successfull idea started out small. Just look at stuff like telephones.

Wasn't there some kind of research of being able to send electricity with out the used of cords? I can't remember where I read it, but it was several years ago someone had they idea of having electric fields that would power appliances. I suppose that would be more logical then having thousands of power lines going across entire continents.
