Joke or not I should be able to go and shout "Mohammed is a ****ing ****!" without having to worry about getting killed. And what pisses me off even more is that all the networks prohibit depiciton of Mohammed ever since the Danish cartoonist 'controversy'. One way we can assure that we won't have any free speech is to give it up anytime threats are made.

it's not just radical islam threatening people though. Abortion doctor guys get death threats from quite a few radical christians as well, and people who say nasty stuff about christianity are not immune to death threats either and too often(which is at least once) this is acted upon as well. That said, it is obscene that anyone sends messages like this. Also, why the hell send death threats when attacking is so much easier without the subjects knowledge?
Maybe in response americans should start boycotting any form of muslim expression whether it be literature, drawn art, or a tv show. If they won't allow us to have freedom of expression why should we allow them to have it? It's insane that they would threaten the makers of south park, and go to such lengths as to provide personal details to the public.
