Hi this is my first time visting your fourms. My name is Chris, and i would like to compare starcraft 1 and starcraft 2. I greaw up with starcraft 1 when i found it on my dads demo disk and i loved it. now starcraft 2 has came out, I would like to have a look into it. Star craft 1 vs star craft 2: grahpics I don't like the graphics of star craft 2 because it has lots of brightness, I can't imagine a normal person after a few hours playing feel fine. because after of few hours I play I get a headache. Starcraft 1 may not look as good as todays standards but they were good back then and that's all that counts. Plus I have lots of memories with starcraft 1 and I am sure you do to fellow reader. Star craft 1 wins! Star craft 1 vs star craft 2: sound I like the sound in star craft 2 because it sounds much nicer then star craft 1 because blizzard brought a better studio to make sounds with and that people have updated there sound cards so people can hear things better. I am one of those people even though with my updated sound card star craft 1 sound still sounds a bit shaggy, I sitll ike star craft 1 but I have to give this one to star craft 2. Star craft 1 vs star craft 2: People and creatures This one made me angry because I was expecting new races in star craft 2 but it had nothing but the same thing as star craft 1! so whats the point of having another game if your just gonna do the same thing as last time expect make it with better graphics and sound? why dont they just make star craft 1 again? because it's basically the same thing! I am disapointed blizzard. Star craft 1 wins! Star craft 1 vs star craft 2: gameplay It all boils down to this, gameplay. Which one is better, I never played either multiplayer in each game because I have a nad internet connection . I think a game should still be good on singleplayer, imo every game should have singleplayer to stand on its own. Because, what if there will be no internet one day and all the party games will be useless and no one will play them but single player games will rise in people and be popular again! I like star craft 1 better because I like the story better, it was easiler to follow. All you needed to know that the zerg is evil and they must be stoped, you do stop them so why is there star craft 2? because blizzard wanted to make more money off people. Star craft 2 storyline is complicated and is hard to fellow, there are too many things going on and it makes no sense. might as well just make a quick game and make your own story because it makes more sense then this junk. Star craft 1 wins That's my imo on why star craft 1 is better. I done reseach along with my gaming experience. Have fun happy gamers.
yeah starcraft 1 is better then starcraft 2 in some ways... i really loved the music in brood war and the maps aswell as the single player ^^ and your right about the graphics in SC2.... they are too shiny and thingy D:
I don't agree with any of your points, tbh, for these reasons: First on the graphics: You do have the option to lower the effects of SC2 and make it more mundane(I have done so out of preference), but some people like shiny and if the technology exists to have top tier graphics adjustable in great range why not have them? SC2 graphics are beautiful in both high and low end machines and that's a big plus. I wouldn't compare these 2 games graphics-wise because we're talking different technologies here. But both have had beautiful graphics for their age. No reason to really compare them especially the amount of how shiny they are since it's both subjective and adjustable. 2) Sound: It's again the same kind of comparison: Different technology and a subjective matter. I prefer the SC:BW in-game music, and both sc and sc2 voices equally. I don't think you can give a star on one or the other again, since it's a bit subjective and a matter of preference. 3)Races: I believe you're one of the very few that expected new races on SC2. SC:BW left the story at a point where the 3 existing races all had more stuff to do and history to write. I don't believe that more is better. Sometimes it is, but not in this case, imo. Chess has had the same 2 armies for virtually millenia and people still love it. 4) Scenario/Gameplay: I think these are 2 different things completely, and the campaign you're talking about should be in the above group, but anyway... The SC2 campaign is about the same length with the original SC campaign with many added cinematics. It's also got so much dialogues/briefing/interraction in it, which with the addition of the minigame and the various kinda of upgrades and research make it a hell of a campaign with lots of replayability. I personally completed it 3 times till now, it has a nice continuation of the story, leaves enough questions to make for a demand for answers in the next campaign(which really makes some people(those who like story-driven campaigns and like the starcraft scenario) say "Damn, can't wait for that expansion to see what happens next". It's at least as good as the original starcraft campaign. As for the gameplay itself, it has many things that are different from broodwar that differentiate them a lot as games, at least when it comes to competitive play. Some people thing the new changes are good other think they are bad, I believe it's personal preference. The game is still skill-driven and has a generally good balance, which shouldn't be an issue at this point in time tbh. As for the internet requirement: yes, I agree that it sucks but I don't think the reason you state(that some day internet worldwide might collapse and we won't be able to play starcraft forever more) is a little not well-thought. I see no reason for there to be no LAN support to play with friends or for there to be a b.net requirement to play the single player. I may want to play offline but I'm not a freaking guest, I payed 50 euro to buy this game I should be eligible to do it with my profile without the need to be online to do so...
There are some things that are better in SC1 than SC2. Here is my list. SC1 Hydra > SC2 Hydra What's done is done, gotta live with it. SC1 Music > SC2 Music Zerg Music, I think sounds fine. However, the Protoss music in SC2 doesn't sound very... I don't know. It just doesn't feel as dramatic, but more like ambient sounds. Terran music, doesn't feel as dramatic as well. SC1 Story > SC2 Story SC1 Story - Amazing. Deception, war, death, twists. SC2 story - Cliche, boring, unoriginal, lame ending. By far the worst story by Blizzard in my opinion. SC2 is a new game, so some balance issues will be made. Also, we still have 2 expansions left which leaves space for more units. It will take some time for SC2 to be as perfect as SC1 (which took many years itself ). Overall, I feel SC2 gameplay is better than SC1. PS. I miss Defilers
All Bolded text is from me @Stirlitz, Yes I took into account that I should be more objective. In which case I am. Also, Chess has ONE army
I think the sounds and graphics depends on individuals. I'm myself a 5-6 year SC 1 player and did enjoy this game including the broodwar, (especially like the dark templar and the lost temple map for 1v1 ladder game). However, with this new SC2 coming this year in July globally. I did find it's more fun for me. Just seeing all the new graphics is a wonderful experience for me to enjoy. Plus, with all the new maps, it makes this game more intriguing and adventurous. just my thought
no matere how hard u try to change my opinon its not going to work. star craft 1 is still the best and allways will be!!!
None of the above posts said starcraft 2 is better... You don't seem like the fastest zergling in the control group, lol
I do not agree, How can you compare a 10+ years old game with a current one. On graphics and sound the newer game always wins. The storyline wasn't ended so this is just the sequel. (and still it's not the end) The only way an older game can win over a newer one is when the gameplay of the old one is significantly better(like it is with the Final Fansay series) but I don't think SC2 is a lot different than SC1 when it comes to gameplay. I admit that I only played the campaign of SC1 and not even the expansion but even IF the gameplay of SC1 is slightly better it can never beat SC2 I would like to play the SC1 storyline again but this old games with antique graphics are not worth playing for hours. (maybe just a few times for the nostalgia) Maybe they should make a SC1 remake with the new game-engine.
...*facepalm* What you just wrote was a pile of trash. StarCraft I has better gameplay PERIOD. Not "slightly better". StarCraft Original had a better campaign PERIOD. It wasn't the end either, yet it went in-depth and did a lot more than what SCII: WoL did, even if it's just 1/3 of "StarCraft II" Graphics wise, I prefer the old graphics of starcraft I in some ways. Sound, SC1 wins. Pay CLOSE ATTENTION to the minute details, and in the creativness of the sound and especially music, SC1 wins. SC1 was a revolution SC2 is mere standard.
^ Are you trolling, sir? SC graphics aren't even capable of having minute details. And sound? And the campaign? I loved SC because it was epic. Back then. As for your last two things, if Blizzard wanted to make a revolutionary RTS, they would've pulled it off no problem... and it wouldn't have been called SC2. As Solar said, you can't compare the games at all.
Err, I do think that your name is being proven with this... What was different in SC1's gameplay to make it better than SC2? SC1 had serious pathfinding problems, you could only select 12 units and had much more functionality issues which sc2 solved...
I don't think the graphics and sound come close. SC2 wins hands down. In SC2 you can zoom in on your 3D army and pick out all the little details, down to every marine's rifle and every zergling's claws. And when people and buildings are blown up, the wreckage and blood has physics. They can even fall off cliffs and roll down ramps, making battles around those areas have a unique feel. In SC1, every thing just has a simple blow up sprite which leaves wreckage. All marines leave the exact same blood splatter on the ground, same with zerglings. Lame. Similar problem with sound, every unit of the same type make the EXACT same death sound in SC1, to go along with the exact same explosion or splatter. Might as well be CloneCraft. There were many groundbreaking things about SC1, but graphics and sound weren't one of them. I will have to agree that the story in SC1 was more emotionally charged and epic. But that had to be sacrificed to add the interactivity that the SC2 story has. Finally, the gameplay. I will admit that the ingame strategies haven't changed too much. The biggest change was the ability to control group buildings and select up to 255 units instead of 12, which makes the game less focused on multitasking and more focused on head-on huge army battles, which in my opinion isn't a good or bad thing. What really changed was how online games were set up. There is no quick match in SC1. You had to set up a ladder game, wait for a random guy to join, and then if you think he was too good or bad based off his win-loss stats, kick him and wait for another guy. Sure there were private ladders like ICCUP to help with that, but the fact that you had to resort to an unofficial ladder was very disappointing, and that's what ultimately drove me away from SC1. Since WC3 came out, I have eagerly waited eight years for a similar quick match system to be implemented in StarCraft. I am not disappointed this time.
