I've been thinking about this for some time.....blizz is making sc2 to be a great solid and fun game in both sp and mp....BUT what most people don't see is that the galaxy editor that comes with the game gives us so many possibilities that its very likely to make other companies to follow this example...

What i mean is that the galaxy editor is going to become so succesful that everyone will start giving out an easy to use editor like this just because it would support the games survivability throughout the years to come...

Almost anyone who has a pc @ home also has an internet connection....so almost everyone can be a part of a modding community or use user created content to have fun....i think this is the approach companies are going to take in this new -EDITOR ERA-

sry bout my english...its about the best i can :)

For a game company to give out such an editor with their gamers means thay would have to have the talent to make such an editor in the first place. And I'm sure most games companies do not have the skilled personel or forethought to do something like this. And even if they tried it'd only be a shadow of the SC2 map editor.

I feel blizzard only release the editor with the game cause they know they have the skilled people to make the editor aweome and they know the time spent on it will equal longevity of the game.

Other developers don't do it because of development time and DLC. They don't want the community making their own content or else they won't buy the overpriced DLC. WarCraft 2 set the standard for a while but now they've gone back to developer-only content.

The editors work with Blizzard's schedule. By the time their next product comes out (every 5 years or so), people will have gotten tired of the old game engine and its graphics, and be ready for something new.

Companies that release games every six months may be detracting from their future profits if a large community is clinging passionately to a recent past game because it has an editor. Most companies want their games to only survive 6 months, so you get tired of it around the same time as their next game is released.

Battlenet is a big plus point too. People want to be able to show off their work, and with battlenet they are able to play their custom games online with friends.

Blizzard = Activision = Activision Blizzard

Bad example Matte but nevertheless I agree with you completely in that Blizzard is super-zuper-duper.
