I just went back to Starcraft Broodwar and holy crap did I get my *ss kicked up and down the block. It's so much more difficult playing that than SC2. The biggest thing being the micro. It's so much more micro intensive than SC2. x.x Worrying about building workers and getting them to the minerals was so difficult, I felt like I was a noob all over again. x.x Have any of you done this since you've played SC2?
Lol yea I used to play brood war ladder Sometimes I rally my nexus next to the mineral because thats what I did in brood war since it doesn't auto mine...
I'm playing broodwar with a mate of mine recently. Can't say it's more difficult, it's "different". It's more micro-intensive in a sense that the basics need more actions to perform, but I don't think you can say it's more difficult, difficult is what you're not used to. Both are equally difficult to an RPG player as solving math problems is difficult to some students but piece of cake for others. it's just different processes you have to go through for every game. On the broodwar matter, when I played my first match against my ex roommate last month I was expecting a very very fast win because in the past I used to be a beast at it and my friend had not even come close to taking an expo off me and he completely obliterated me with some drop play I did not see coming Back to the micro: If you see top players play, their actions per minute on SC2 peak to similar amounts as APM of old BW players when in combat, even with the APM counter filtering out repeatitive actions on sc2 which for me suggests that the things needed to do in SC2 are not less than BW. You save actions from stuff like auto mining and groupping units and macroing back in the base, but those free actions can be funneled to other things that in BW a person just did not have the amount of speed required to do... It's not like anyone has 1000 APM and ends up not using them in SC2 because it's simple. But even if there was such a person he'd just execute things a lot better than the current pros. If you see a macro-based game that takes to over the 20 min mark, even pro-gamers forget lots of stuff like many idle workers here or there, or get supply blocked sometimes or this thing here the other there while they have an average of 200+ APM(After filter)... In the end, it's just different, imo...
I personally cant play BW after playing SC2. I mostly played customs anyway and the only normal type games I played on bnet were fastest and BGH.
