Look at that new picture, then look in the top right hand side and you will see the big bubble that says something like this...

"Terran suply depots can now be lowered to let freindly ally units pass by."

Does this mean only freindly units can walk over the supply depots? If so, then this wouldn't be very cool. I would like to see how people have to strategically lower and raise the depot to cover damage.

    Thanks, Inside Sin.

Depots have an option to lower them under ground level. In this mode everyone cass pass over them and whe they're up no one can pass (unless he destroys them ^^)
So you can set up depots around your base to act as first line of defense and if you need to get your army out just lower them for a while.
Look for terran gameplay trailer if you can, I think it was shown there

EDIT: you can actually see two depots lowered and around them are two other depots up on that screenshot

I still say, it would be nice to have a building unti specifically for defense, instead of using supply depots.

It would be funny it you can build holes, like traps, the enemy passes over them, you open them, poof they fall down into a hole full of spikes, farfetched, but funny.

Zerg have a thing for spikes. They would enjoid building such a primitive trap.

We could ultimately make it so you can build nydus worms earlier in the game. This would be better then giving the overlords the ability to pickup/drop.

    :) Its farely balanced idea.

Personnally, I don't like the idea of supply depots becoming the official defense walls for the Terrans and being able to lower down. Yes of course, we use Supply Depots as walls in Starcraft 1, but only because it was cheap and we didn't have anything else to block the way, in other words, it was a 'cheap' tactic :).

I think it would be better to actually give the Terrans a wall structure made for the job instead of encouraging to use supply buildings to block the way, which is a little silly if you ask me.

i think it works this way

you can put the supply depots underground and up on the ground and when its underground, units can pass by even your enemies

    yea

    i keep wondering
what if you put the supply depots up when any units are passing by?

They said in the last Q&A that there are not going to be any wall-like structures for any races in sc2. The idea is cool, but doesn't seem to fit well into a game about space battles and conquests.

    ^ Yup.

Also if you don't like the lowered supply depots don't use them, lol simple really.

Cuz in Sc1 early in the game were there is a choke point a lot of people put them there to stop Zergling rush or allow them to build up their forces before attacking everyone. With the lowering ability it just saves time removing them and in StarCraft terms the Terran have adapted to a situation and turned the tactic into a solid one with more benifits.

Plus you could do this anyway in Sc1 one with Command Centers or whatever just that the buildings we more pricy and longer to build and could fly instead of go underground.

Horay for the baracks gate! I do those whenever I play terran. A bunker next to it makes it even harder to kill when on the defensive. Then get a few tanks and a turrets to see those pesky DT's.

I love playing as terran and would always make a little supply wall and barracks gate, then put bunkers behind it. The supply deos lower ability simplifys the process. I would also make a killing yard by making a courtyard area that makes the units hunker together for ground focus fire. ;D
I wonder if protoss could use phase cannons as walls/gates now that they can move...

I bet they can, the mobile cannons can act like the gates easily. Since they can turn into pylon power and move out of the way, its about equal to the terran's ability to lift barracks, etc. to allows free space for thier units. Then, when your units leave, move the cannon back in place and warp them.
