i have been haveing trouble lately with early marine maurder drops as stalkers fall to quickly and zealots cannont actually attack marauders without the leg speed. so i have started rushing dark templars. to do this you must get up some cannons for detection but since they cost only minerals it ok. so for starters i go 2 gate forge twilight council then dark shrine. build a few stalkers, but mainely zealots setting up few canons at key spots. and upgrading zealot leg speed. once you have some dts and zealots you can generally rip through any opponents base as even with detection units auto on zealots and dts clean house, also it can be difficult to notice dts in combat when combined with other units. this attack allows you to expand and start working on more gateways and getting hightemps with psi storm. remember the feedback though as it works well on medivacs. ( when getting high temp you need to phase out dts at least as a combat role as they die to easily to high temps.) this replay is not the best but it shows what im doing. also vs P
I've been experimenting with similar techniques for the past few weeks and loved the results too... DTs are awsome for drop defence and I generally like gateway play a lot since it's flexible and much more mobile than robo builds... Another way to deal with drops is early phoenixes, since they're very fast and obliterate medvacs, so even the threat of bumping into your phoenix squad will reduce drops by a big deal, but even if they land you can warp in a couple zealots, kill the medvac with phoenixes and beam-kill the dropped units. Generally knowing that your drop has 0 chances of survival makes people stop dropping and looking for other alternatives. Phoenixes are also nice at harassing and lifting tanks/immortals up and even without attacking if you have 10 of them you can lift 10 enemy units up in an encounter and turn the scales to your favour.. Though i generally prefer templar builds because I just like these units... I'll watch your replay after getting a cup of coffee Edit: Just watched it, while drinking that cup of coffee Man, the damage output of the dts if they get to reach the frontline is just sick! Those stalkers went down in like 3 hits, lol
Feedback is next to useless since few things are left with energy bars and the units that do either out range the HT or move faster than it. Scouting is the most important, 2-3 obs or units in the right spot will let you be right there for them to waste their drop. A few cannons here and there couldn't hurt either.
