I just came up with this, and I realy would like to know what you guys think.

    Scenario:
    - Time travelling will be possible in the future.
    - We can travel back in time.
    - We are also really going do it.

If this is really possible, then why are we not surrounded by people from the future then?

    Reasons:
    - The government covers it up because of terrorism or something.
    - We do not want to show ourselves. -butterfly effect.
    - We cannot travel back further then the point where we invent time travel.
    - Other stuff. :s

    What do you think?

    the solution is obvious:
    1. You can only sent people to the time after time travel invented due to the need for receiving devices
    2. you cant timetravel

timetravel brings you to a artificial alternate reality

    You just broke reality.

But Einstein said it should be possible. It just requires an insine amount of power. Hmm, never really thought about receiving devices. I thought of this because time travel was mentioned in next world this morning. -A show on discovery.-

just cause einstein said it doesnt mean its true
and IIRC einstein said: if you go faster then light, you'd go back in time, so you cant go faster then Light

also what about: it requires a very rare material so its limited

    or

civilization fall before they invent something this advanced

That last options seems more likely. Global warming is really messing with the planet. Countries who care will eventually nuke countries that keep using oil. If this crisis gets even further out of hand, and people use other stuff instead of expensive oil... I can see it happening within a hundred years. IF we do not manage to get a commonly accepted alternative. -like hydrogen-

    not just our civalization though

too reach a higer scientific level you need researchers, the higer the level, the more researchers you need, thus the higher the level the more population you need. The more population you need, the more waste is produced

    boom!

    *note: just a funny theory*

Put the researchers on the moon then. They can send those along with the Hubble telescope replacement in 2013. (It will go in orbit around the moon, I believe they named it the John Keifer telescope or something)

But here is a tough one: if you could go back and change ONE thing, what would it be? It can be anything you want, but it could possibly change the life thousands of people in your own time. Even though they do not know what happened, -duh- would it be ethical?

    Time travel.

You can NOT go back in time. No matter what. Why? Because of the way we perceive it. To quote a great Native American philosopher, you can't step in the same river twice.

HOWEVER. You CAN go forward, a number of different ways. The most simple would be (A) Hit the speed of light and time stops for you till you slow down. You're in the future.
    (B) Skim the event horizon of a black hole. You'll 'bore' through time and come out ahead of when you went in.

Like on the Andromeda show. :p
I already knew of the black hole thing before I first saw that, though. If you would be able to look at something going into a black hole, you would never see it going into it. The object you are looking at would just slow down further and further, untill it looks like it stopped. Funny thing: it is impossible to look at, since light also gets sucked in. XD

The thing moving into the black is due to the light thing, not the time thing.

Also, you can look at black holes, you just wouldn't see anything. At all. Just blackness. That's how we find them

I am going to pown you now, so prepare. ;)

Most black holes are the brightest objects in the universe. The biggest ones, quasars, are at the centre of galaxies. They suck in billions of tons of burning gas from nearby stars, so there are really bright spots around them. The galaxies with those two --spikes-- coming out of them are with extremely --active-- quasars. They suck in so much, that it is being throw out again, lightyears far. That, in combination with several types of radiation, is how we find them. Sorry for that.

    We can't timetravel.
Too bad, I'd like to see my "me" of the future (if I have a future....)

There is actually this one scientist that is a professor of physics at the university of Connecticut that thinks he can make time travel a reality and all his theories are based on Einsteins. He explains some things about it and his theories are quite interesting. here is a video.

    Counter pwn in bold.

Also, I amend my earlier statement.

    That's how we originally foundthem

    *grumble*

But you were not using the past tense there, so you must have been talking about the current situation. Unless you did find a way to travel back and posted that in the past...

Hehe, also: I never mentioned wormholes, sir. :p

"They suck in so much, that it is being throw out again, lightyears far."

Unless I'm reading this bit totally wrong, you're saying that matter goes in one hole and comes out another. Essentially, that's a wormhole. Due to the infinite density/zero volume properties that are supposed to exist at the singularity, I suppose it could be considered a space/time fold..
