Ok so im first in my silver league. Im a decent player playing for around 50%. im not excellent but not a noob either. My question is how to make that step from beating silver players to beating gold/higher? I always seem to be lost in midgame. I either stop producing at a good rate or i get stuck not knowing what to do. I scout and i know what the enemiy does but he either produces more or i **** up trying to change strategies. I never seem to play doing the same thing. Is that good/bad? Should i get one opening standard and stick to it? Its like i have too many ideas in my head and not doing any of them. Also i tend to stick around too much. I always tjink my army is not enough and i tend to wait for a few more units. Then its too late. I lost the advantage i sometimes create with say reapers, vr or other harassing tehniques. I play mostly protoss or terran. Sometimes zerg. Any suggestions on what i should do agaibst better players? A way to transition into a better game style? I mean my strats work in silver and bronze but vs gold or higher... Not really. Thanks in advance!

If your getting lost around the mid game transition your not ready to play most gold and above people. When i was in silver moving up to gold i noticed a big difference. I started to realize when to grab my expansions when to push and fall back, Most importantly knowing what unit composition to go for and change to at the mid point of the game.

As a zerg player the best way i could explain silver to gold is at first in silver when fighting protoss id see zelot/salker mixup. So id go for lings and hydras. But fast robo would kill me. As a gold player now when i see zelot/stalker mixup i anticipate it and scout for it, if i see the robo i can easliy transition into a counter without much thought. Id say most gold+ games ive been in end slightly after the mid game transition. If your still a little cloudy on what to do around that point thats where you should focus.

I've just recently made the step up into gold and it's a big difference from silver, at least for me. The biggest thing I've noticed is I have to be more flexible in my builds. Silver was fairly easy once i had a build in mind - I tended to go for an early forge, cannon-wall off my base and pump out air units. That rarely works for me now:(

Instead, I'll have a specific build in mind - for example going for early robo. In silver I would just concentrate on getting as many units out as possible and keeping on the single build, no matter what. What tends to set gold players apart from silver is that they will build the counters to my build, and are able to turn my own push.

The best thing I've found is having a build in mind but keeping my options open. Know what your build can handle and what it can't. If you see counters coming out, change your build to counter their counter (if that makes sense :p). As an example, you go for a zealot/stalker build. While building up your army, keep it moving and scouting. Back at base, get those robos out and gets some observers - possibly the most useful Protoss unit, then get some immortals. Now you're ready for any armoured counter against your fast but flimsy army. If their counters are coming, you have immortals ready to back up. Push onto colossi if you can.
If you're going for vr, get some phoenixes (one of my favourite units), get the fleet beacon and get some carriers.

Sometimes it may help to think of what army you are going for - there's a simple progression . Mainly foot? Zealots->Stalkers->Immortals->Colossi. Mainly air? Nixes/vr->carriers. Flexibility can come from the other useful units - sentries, HT etc. Sorry for concentrating on Protoss but it's what I know! Hope that helped.

the key thing is to have a overall plan ( ABC ). which goes something like this.

i want to do A in the mid game B in the late Game therefore i must open with C. D beats ABC therefore i must check for D and get F.

which for a protoss looks like this

i want to get a fast collosus with range in the mid game, have a bigger force with chargelots and stalkers in the late game, therefore i must open with 2 gate to robo to bay. im concerned with terran getting banshee zerg getting mutas and protoss getting voids, therefore i must check and get stalkers ( and observer for banshees) instead of the range upgrade.

    Hopefully that makes sense

Im high gold and starting to play plat players regularly, i play toss so my main goal is to get a quick robo and pump some collosus out, Alltho agasint MMM you have to weigh up his army, observer is a must, if hes going to tank tech you have to go immortals, mass marines/medivacs you go chargelots / senturies / collosus, Banshees you go stalkers ect ect, i dont have 1 stratagy i allways use, i try to adapt my build around the enemy, You have to try and guess when hes going to move out, will you have enuff units to fend him off, ect ect.
