Trolling is bad, that's why its so good bad trolling is bad imo. Like when someone whose bad at it lol
I think trolling in general is bad. But, it does become entertaining when someone else is the one being trolled.
For some reason I get the impression that people asking for definitions aren't really trying to understand the topic. Personally I have ambivalent feelings about trolling. The good: it helps keep friendships alive. Joking around/trolling is a means of keeping the discussion fun and casual. For people that are not friends, it helps with first impressions - what their sense of humour is or areas of interest are. We're young and we can be serious and grumpy when we get old - now's not the time. The bad: over the internet it's completely different. On the one hand there is the similarity with personal contact in the sense that it helps people to bond (if you can call it that over the internet with complete strangers). But on the other, I can't help but think that if people troll for their own enjoyment, they have issues in their real life. I'm talking about stream chat trolling for example. I'm questioning if someone who enjoys annoying others just because they will never meet is normal. And yes, people who take trolling over the internet seriously should also reconsider their values but racism and certain other topics just can't be disregarded. I'm more and more getting the impression that trolling and this whole "only I matter and nobody else" mentality is starting to make the internet a bad place to be at. And if you've looked around other sites, this is not limited to the hotbeds of trolling like 4chan or gaming forums etc. I see it happening on social and news sites. And although I'm not too concerned about future generations, I want to note that children get on the internet at increasingly early ages, and so they'll actually grow up with this mentality. My mother always said "treat others how you'd want to be treated" which I take very seriously to this day. But now I'm starting to think that with the ubiquity of the internet and thus trolling, it doesn't make much sense since I'll never be treated the way I treat others - I'll always get trolled. Don't get me wrong, as I've pointed out in the "the good" section, I often like to joke around and such. It's just that sometimes it's too much. Meh.
And kuvasz delivers a downer to make me depressed. Also, wasn't it consensus that many of those trolls are in fact the younger children getting on the internet at earlier ages?
That is literally the opposite of my intentions when I ask for definitions. I generally make assumptions about people's definitions if they don't define them, which tends to adversely affect my arguments.
