Underground Fighting

    ya know when i found out about supply depots going underground i thought to myself * would be awesome if you could have underground fights* Now lets emphasis on this. Lets say you can only fit certain units down like only infrantry and maybe certain vechiles. And maybe underground you could like find even richer resources. Would add another style of gameplay. maybe each race would get there own kind of drilling unit so that you could make paths and maybe get under the enemy base. then build maybe a tunnel thing that only the driller and basic worker unit can build and come up from the ground. of course your enemy can use the elevator too and it comes under there control (they get vision) if they use it. Ideas?

    moon project was like that, don't know if you ever heard of it not a very popular game but there was underground tunnels, and any ground unit could use them

    actually i got the idea from metal fatigue 2. u could fight on land,air,and underground. though the air was more like atomaspheric type. but still fun.

    i want to see naval battles they wouldn't always apply but it would be fun

    thank you for the welcome.

    Naval battles would be fun. but it just wouldn't feel right with a game like starcraft. I mean warcraft yeah but starcraft already have sophisticated air technology so water transportation would be very limited. unless they added a resources that would be only obtainable in the water.... but even so most of the worlds in SC are barren from war and rarely have any kind of water supply.

    yeah i blame the protoss for the lack of water.....

    My main objection to this idea is that to do it properly would delay the game by months or years and I already want to buy the game now! lol

    cause the zerg are hated by everyone. there like the flood in halo.... and like the thyrannids in dawn of war..... Everyone hates them for being evil..... but the zerg didn't destroy planets.. they just infested them. the protoss were the one destroying planets to kill the zerg. thus i blame the protoss.
    oh crap where getting off topic BACK ON TOPIC...

    and maybe so if they delayed the game but maybe they could addd it in the exspanion though....

    Protoss just seared them. It would take untold power to destroy a planet.

    Anyhoo. It would take too much micro I think.

    meh the protoss pretty much made the planets impossible to live on......

    plus it would add a new demsion of game play. people could maybe hide there bases underground. so while someone controls the skies. you could control the caves muahahha.

    on another note. it would allow a place for the thor to shine.

    Meh, its a good idea but it just isn't Starcraft.

    @Fenix, the Protoss just seared them....

    They turned the surfaces of planets into plasma! PLASMA ! ! ! !

    I am not even sure what insane amount of energy it would take to pull that off. Maybe if you similtaneously detonated a gigton nuclear warhead placed every killometer over the planets surface you would get a similar effect, maybe.

    Sure they aren't doing Star Wars death star, planet go kaboom kinda thing but still.

    well th e death star was just a giant laser lol. plus the protoss bombarded the planet so much that nothing could live there. thus prettty much destroying it.

    I always wondered why there is no high orbit fighting. It would work sort of like cloaking. Imagine a capital ship bombarding you from space? Unless you have vessels that can reach the higher elevation or maybe some sort of latter tier turrets you can't fight back. Adds a fair amount more to game play although sort of over complicate things and opens the door for real cheap ass strats...bah, Blizzard could balance it.

    the thing i don't like about underground fighting is it seems like it would be difficult to tell what exactly was going on down there. How do you display underground units other than the Zerg burrow hole we know of now?

    You can either switch to another layer of view (The Moon Project did this) or you might set ground above tunnels to be transparent to the interface.

    yeah metal fatigue did it well too. it had 3 tabs. all u had to do was click on them plus 1 of them would blink to let you know if your being attacked in any of the tabs.... Plus metal fatigue also had a voice.... (battle underground) lol...
