So just recently I decided to get back in to map-making on Starcraft. So I started my brain-storming thread for my newest map, Capture The Flags 2. I recently received a reputation power-down on the original post in that thread with the comment "I disapprove." Well, sir, I disapprove of your power-down. I fail to see how you can disapprove of a brain-storming thread. I did not feel my post warranted a power-down. So I contacted a moderator. The moderator in question stated that any intervention from a moderator was impossible due to Rule 12 of the official Forum Rules. Keep in mind that losing one reputation point is -200 VBExperience points, whereas gaining a point in the first place is only +100 VBExperience points. Something must be done about this injustice.

Have you suffered losses of your forum statistics due to injustices like this? If so, share your story.

Show of hands how many people know why rule 12 exists? I am going to just assume few if anyone has the whole story. On top of the extra time it would one of the biggest reason moderators don't mediate power down disputes is because the can't mediate power down disputes. A mod's ability to change a person's repuatation level is the same as everybody elses. sc2forums didn't want to deal with the extra time it would take to deal with each dispute individually so chose to make it a community governed thing except in extreme cases. Not much has changed since that point, Jon doesn't want to take the time to deal with disputes except in extreme cases and I don't think many people would blame him.

I could remove rule 12 from the forum rules and every mod's answer would be the same, they can't mediate power level disputes. If you think something is extreme enough you can try and get Jon involved, and all I can say is good luck with that. Otherwise you need to find someone with admin powers who agrees that a power down was unfair and is willing to fix it.

Ste I don't think EMR is being to serious, I read it as feigned anger versus anything real or serious. My answer is real for people who miss the point though.

Wow, there was a powerdown clan conflict? Maybe limiting myself to maps and replays, graphics etc., the arts, and fan fiction isn't such a good idea...

The VAR12 must gain more followers!

I believe we just crossed the border into Space Junk territory. Or perhaps feedback, if you're trying to begin a serious critique of the reputation system.

Originally I was definitely looking for serious discussion about it, but this can definitely be moved to Space Junk now.

    Why space junk?
    Meh, whatever.

The only thing I find ridiculous is that my profile says my level should be 8, while it displays 6 in the forum. It doesn't make sense.

Aurora if you look more closely you will notice two of those have a grey box at the end insted of the normal green one, that means they don't count towards your rep at all (this is generally because the person who gave you the rep didn't meet the rep requirements).

    Well that blows. :/
But at least it's fair because it's the same for everybody then. I wish we had the old system again. You could see who gave rep and the buttons just wouldn't appear until you had enough posts. But mainly the powerup emotion. That was just awesome.

Actually it is possible to set it up so people can see who gave them their reps but I think most people prefer it being anonymous (it also prevents rep wars).
