Ive seen people freak out, go nuts and flame like crazy (Iv thought up and posted some crazy ideas) but truthfully if you look at the whole picture beta is only about 10-15% of the actual game. Why they released it truthfully I would have to say was to test there servers/bug fixing more then anything along with early damage control and I can see a whole host of things being changed/added when its finally released (huge couple of patches coming down the line). The funniest part of this whole thing is team liquid saying that SC2 will never replace SC1 all because multplayer isn't up to par for them (being still in beta). So far blizz gets a BA rating. Also lol I just noticed I have -1 rep I wonder how that happens.
Yeah...%'s don't work well with your point. What Beta is now, is going to be the competitive side of the game...so there is merit to freaking out of balance, yet I'd recommend more people be open minded then screaming "nerf that unit!". The campaign, and map Editor, as well as minor things like achievements will be very, very nice...but yeah, Beta is very much a valid source for concern if you truly want to be a competitive SC2 ladder player.
It's more like 50% but still it is too early to judge. We do have two more expansions after all and StarCraft was not what it is today before patches and Brood War. People are just too hyped because of the wait.
If people actually looked at Pro levels games from 2006 and before for sc1, you can tell the level of play is about the same or less than the plat players are right now in beta. You also have to consider the fact it took starcraft years to evolve to such a state where it became so intense and competitive. Lastly, 10% is a joke, regardless of the number, the gameplay we've seen in beta will be the multiplayer aspect we'll be seeing except obviously unlocking a lot of features in bnet2. Expect things to go crazy when the game actually comes out. SC2 evolve will most likely evolve must faster than sc1 due to it being "new", "fresh", "anticipation", and "living up to SC1".
i think the guy referred to the balancing or something. It's stupid to look at a games unfinished beta and then declare the game unbalanced
It's even stupider to believe that we can accurately examine the state of the macro'micro when no one knew crap about StarCraft when it was first released and didn't even know about certain things like Mutastacking until about 2004. I recommend anyone who is interested in learning about the similarities between this beta and the original beta to listen to the TeamLiquid beta podcasts.
i have to agree. the singleplayer, if it is as epic as blizzard promised, is a good 50% of the experience. sure, you spend more time playing multiplayer, but in terms of content and experience the SP should give a lot. on the MP side, there's still tons of balance and strategies that people have to come up with. we won't be seeing all that multiplayer has to offer until the pros have spent at least a year or two fleshing out all the micro and macro strategies. for the most part, people are essentially playing SC1 with SC2 units being used exactly how they're designed to be used. it takes time to explore all the possible uses that the new units can provide.
I agree beta players will have the edge of non beta players for a few weeks into retail. But who knows what balance changes will make into retail. That alone will change the experiance from beta to retail a lot. Add in Simgle Player, the map generator for custom content and stuff in SC2 Blizzard has not told us yet. There's a lot we have yet to discover in SC2. I think the 10% figure though only an an opinion is a little low. But the idea that there is a buttload of stuff yet to discover and explore in SC2 is so totally correct.
lulz I wonder if it's just a coincidence in that the syndicate knows this is a StarCraft site therefore shows StarCraftg related ads ... or if it's something much, much more sinister. *looks at Joneagle*
