Does the zerg need to kill every single protoss in order to assimilate them? Wouldn't it be necessary just one protoss specimen? How does it actually work?
It depends on the species and the individual. Dogs are easy to assimilate, humans are easy if you don't need intelligent infested terran. psionic humans are incredibly hard and protoss impossible.
Looking at it that way, maybe it has something to do with psionics, seeing as the Protoss are a very psionic race.
But the Overmind`s goal on the first starcraft was to assimilate the protoss, wasn't it? If it wasn't, what was the Overmind`s intent?
The overmind's stated goal was to 'take the protoss unto himself'. Literal words btw. Most people explain it as assimilating the protoss, pet theory of mine is absorbing the protoss like he did to the Xel'Naga
i thought it just kind of "touched minds" similar to how zeratul accidentally let the overmind know the location of aiur... i'm fairly certain no assimilation was going on there.
They can't assimilate psionic individuals... The overmind simply accessed zeratfuls mind when he killed the cerebrate. They can't be infested.
The story of the Overmind and his Cerebrates is really tragic as well as pointless if you think about it. They did everything during SC1 to get to Aiur and when they're finally there, unable to get away probably, they realize they can't assimilate the Protoss. It had to be a mistake, otherwise I don't see why the Overmind would go there. Oh how would've loved to play Zerg during the original Protosss-campaign to hear what the Overmind said to his Cerebrates before that last mission, probably something like: The creatures we set here to tame... Wait. Oh, well, tell Daggoth that I love him!
