Just remember America is still more civilized than most of other countries. Humanity has a very long way to go before we can call ourselves sane.

 

That may be true to you, but I think first world countries should be setting a better example of themselves than that...

 

Hey at least those people had a reason (albeit a very bad one). There's plenty of people roaming arouind who pick people at random.

Say what you like, reports of violent crime have been on the decline in the US for years. Whether that means the US is becoming more civilized is more a debate on what the word means. On the other side, according to this pdf, the US has a slightly higher murder rate than the world average.

 

I blame the higher muder rate on the gang bangers who idolize criminals.

As for the peopl loling the "America is more civilized than other countries" comment, whya are you doing that when it's true?
Go to Somalia and speak against the leaders. They will hack one of your hands off.
Not to mention alot of African countries seem to specialize in anihalating each other.
No one in the former Yugoslavia can get along and it is overrun by rampant revenge seeking against the wrong people.
Everyone in seems to hate Israel and try to kill somone there when the chance arrives.

It might not be the shining beacon of hope, but at lest we don't have very many people who seem to exist to kill somone because they are different or look at people funny.



Perhaps this thing called civilization is nothing more than being able to kill each other more quickly and easily.

 

Yeah, what about European countries? Like Norway for example, or England.

From the data I have seen, violent crime is generally lower in Western Europe. I think Norway and England were both better in general crime statistics than the US.

As for the smug superiority thing, that's just people being stupid. The US has some good points, but a lot of people may like living somewhere else more. It's all just a matter of opinions.
