Suppose if right at this instance someone close to you a friend or family member. Walked into the room while you were reading this and told you that nukes landed, and that World War 3 was about to begin. Try to visualize it, and try to comprehend your thoughts. What would you feel in this situation? What would be your reaction? If somewhere in your country a nuke landed killing thousands. What if it wasn't just your country? What if it was in ones where you had friends in? Would you feel the need to find shelter? Would you feel patriotic and feel the need to sign up? Would you prey to a god, or would you look to some other kind of guidance? Would you save your self or choose to save others?

Reason why I ask is due to a paper I'm writing so this is kind of research.

None of the options you listed make any sense except perhaps finding a shelter. Signing up in a nuclear war is rubbish. Praying to god is rubbish. And saving yourself or others? Meaning how? Either I get hit by a nuclear warhead or I do not I can't do anything about it except from trying to get out of the city and find a shelter.

At the moment I would most likely just stay home since Prague is hardly a strategic target for a warhead. Perhaps I would go and buy some supplies of food in case things would get worse but that's about all I could do.

Well honestly. It wouldn't make sense for people to choose the most sensible option. If you knew that close by a nuke landed killing thousands maybe even millions. Would you act rationally?

As for choosing to save your self or others. Would you choose to get in your car and drive to the best possible place for shelter, or would you try to find your loved ones first? Or would you perhaps try to help others looking to escape any potential blast.

Signing up during a nuclear war wouldn't be completely rubbish. As soon as the nukes stop falling the soldiers are gonna be left with the task of holding whats left of your country together.

You can try and help others escape.

Be a man, and go Enlist, that very minute.

Sorry if its a short reply, but that is what I would do.

MPower, pretty sure you don't understand the concept a total nuclear war. The only thing that matters in that kind of exchange is launching more ICBMs from silos and nuclear submarine assets than the other guys. Machine guns, tanks, most planes, boats, they're just targets. NOTHING a new puke can do will change ANYTHING except he'll prolly get shipped somewhere where he'll get nuked.

You get as deep underground as physically possible, and hope you're far enough away from an epicenter.

    the solution is obvious:

move to the middle of africa. I doubt there would be much nuclear fighting going on there.

Wasn't aware we were talking about just nukes going back and forth...
Well in that case, nothing. Just die like the rest of you. If a nuke hits in your area you are done for, there is no running. Either you are lucky or not

I would be most interested in my own survival, so I would rush around gathering resources and constructing a shelter. Communal shelters would be rife with fear and competition and poverty, so I'd prefer to survive on my own. Time would be of the essence; reflecting on things can happen later.

You guys are completely forgetting about the worlds blank spot. Canada, literally nobody lives in Northern Canada. Seriously there is nothing of importance in Canada.

In truth I would grab: my gf, some supplies, possibly my family, and move to Canada. I noticed how none of you guys said anything about your lover/family.

South Africa was in the buyers market for nuclear weapons a while back so i'm sure they'd love to join in the fun.

As i live in Australia i would also travel to one of the world's blank spots...anywhere more than 50km from the coast (Or the ACT) >>...i'd try to avoid any lousy American military bases scattered in land as well.

Rofl, I really laughed when you said you might go buy some food supplies. When any kind of disaster happens, people stock up on food, What you will encounter once you get to the store, will probably an empty hall which has been raided by panicking people long before you got there. :p

There really wouldn't be much point of doing anything but finding shelter since the bombs are already on the way and all transportation would be grid locked anyways. I don't know why people find Nuclear war so daunting and claim it to be the end of the world and of humanity.... In reality maybe 15% of the earths total population would die from the nukes and radioactivity. (15% is just my guess of course.. heres a few short answers I found on the interwebs)

I'd probably just go to Montana or somewhere in the U.S. that isn't heavily populated and probably wouldn't be targeted. I live way to close to New York City to stay there during a nuclear war lol. I'd also make sure all of my friends and family members knew what was happening, just in case some of them are living under a rock.

I'd honestly suggest all of us traveling to Montana (or wherever we are going) together. Not only would it be fun (because having fun is what I'd care about the most if we could all die at any second), but it would save me from worrying about my friends/family. Although, that probably wouldn't work out too well.

I think a far more likely scenario would be limited nuclear detonation, which would make enlisting a relevant option.

Not that I would do that. I'm far more likely to either do my best to survive. I suppose it would be nice to have enough time to max out my credit cards and blow my cash reserve on hookers and booze first, before going all Mad Max on the road.

Well technically there's only 2, one for monitoring the middle east/Asia and the other for ballistic missiles, satelliteetc radar dishes (and lots of classified pre/post cold war stuff) >>

yeah but before that i would kill the bad as* GHOST that made that nuke land....

some serious part now...im from Portugal and if you watch the news you may know that Portugal is in a bad situation so...maybe the nuke have already been launched lolz

but yeah...as far as i know Portugal wouldnt have a chance to survivefor 2 reasons:we are a small country and 4 nukes would remove Pt from the map. we dont have military power (at least i think i don't)

but i would do what Gforce said...
i would drink my last whisky...reveal my secret love and...KABooOOOoOOMMM

I would just chill in my home and read a book. Considering the fact that every single person who has heard of the news will most probably either: Flee, loot or stock up the transportation grid will be choked up worse than a terran wall and you can bet that every shop in town will be looted to the ground. For those of you who are thinking of fleeing to blank zones what do you think every body else is trying to do? I'm pretty sure that Jetstar doesn't let you fly economy during a nuclear war and give it a day or two those blank zones won't be so blank as refugees from all over flee there. The best thing to do would be to accept your fate and make rational decisions on how to survive the day rather than to think about the long term goal.
