In the simplest way possible, it's football without pads.

rugby is American football with minimal protection (no pads, helmet, etc)

I do not play it, I've only player soccer and bowling, and was only decent at either of them.

Believe it or not you get hurt the same amount in rugby and football. Studies show hits in rugby are concentrated in a smaller area, but have less force than football, so the pads and the force cancel each other out.

I played both, football is more between a play around the Quarter back and the receiver.
and Rugby is more a team work in general (the game only stop at goal and penalities)

plus we have a warcry before each game

    I must admit I am a n00b though
but it's a ton of fun and is like a +15 charisma in terms of women

I´m from Brazil, and about 0,0001% of the people here knows what Rugby is. However, I had the chance to play it for 1 and a half year during college, and man, I loved it! Great sport, real fun.
I still like soccer better though.
