Aye all,

For the past couple months, i've been acting as the assistant events manager, next only to the director, working to organise a skate competition. I wont say the name of the event cause im not allowed to announce it other than in press releases and mail outs, flyers, all that......

Its been organised in conjunction with another festival, the competition is open to scooters, inline, and skate, we've got bands playin, a dance compeitition, stalls, and a barbecue....

I've never done anything like this before, ive never done any events management, and ive gone straight from nothing to liasing with all these different companies and government figures and this n'that, even the barbecue has been intense ive never done so much shopping for a barbecue in my life, i even managed to get a big donation, and ive hired 6 volunteers for the barbecue and ive never been anyones boss before, its all happenin aye

ive done fairly well so far, been quite organised, quite prepared. Had a few hiccups involving things that i was 'responsible for' but had no 'control' over haha ya know, like my director stuffed up with a cheque for example and then he bailed on me so i couldnt have it fixed, but then im the one supposed to be payin for a huge delivery, but i have no power with money i have to go through the boss,.. haha al the hiccups got sorted though

anyway.... THE SKATE COMP IS ON TODAY!!!!

its 5.56am, im drivin in with one of my volunteers, we're gonna pick up 10 bags of ice along the way, we'll get there, print out some info sheets, set up some tents, set up the tables n'all for the first aid, cloak room collections, asu stall, this n'that, prepare the barbecue, get the volunteer log in/out stuff ready, meet n'greet all the staff like skate shop guys, and the music promotions agency, fix the waivier on the registration form!!!!!!!!! it has mistakes!!!! couldnt believe that when i noticed last night haha

i'm nervous guys.... i just want people to turn up, people to enjoy the day, and for the barbecue to run smoothly, and as few dramas as possible with everythin else

Comp was a huuuuuge success everyone,

had some mad tricks aye especially the younger ones has some huuuuuuuge backflips never seen anythin like it from such young kids, the older ones tore up the park with some insane combos, everyone had a mad time, was heaps sunny the perfect day for it, music was pumpin all day, maaate.

loads of people turned up, i'm the first to profit on the barbecue in years, my volunteers were great workers and i made sure they were all enjoyin the work and i kept rotation up so no one got stressed and they all loved me as a boss which made me real glad to hear, the bands were great, first aid was real helpful though no incidents other than a few light sprains n'ice pack jobs, council workers and police were great, the asu did their best haha but serious hard information about rights at work didnt appeal to people, i did warn them they came by their own request ha, the dance comp went great gees the crowd went wild for them, the mc's did a terrific job got everyone reved up and excited, some nice camera work which ill get copies of soon, its gettin a report on some telli channel i didnt get time to ask which one but ill get the footage for sure

was a damn good day.

after several months of planning this, it was a huge success.

i'm stoked, all thats left for me to do is a report on the day, ill write references for the volunteers, a bunch of thank you emails and phone calls, maybe a couple meetings to discuss what went well n'what could be improved for next year, and to enjoy the next two days of free time before im back to study and work.
