Also... this makes it rather suspect:

What is indisputable is that Russians live in a political climate in which those who criticize Mr. Putin or the human rights violations of his government can be murdered with impunity. Although some of the killings have occurred in their cities, Western governments have made no attempt to hold Mr. Putin or the Russian government accountable. Their silence helps keep brazen murder a part of Russia's politics.

Great leader they have there. Even if Putin isn't involved, he certainly doesn't object to what's going on. Mot the kind of person to have running your country, if he does nothing to stop crimes. I wonder how long it will be till fixing the vote is a valid thing to do again.

He is already fixing the vote, and by a lot more than the Western media says- for example, all estimates state that 40% (!) of people voted for the Communist party, yet they only got about 12% ''officialy'' and United Russia somehow got 65% with an increase in 25%...Of course, they cannot cheat that much- Communist party is stronger than ever in the recent local elections (funny, eh?), but its still rigged as hell.

This to me is a problem. Communism puts production and the economy under control of the government (technically it is supposed to be a group of knowledgeable individuals, but that group ends up being run politically from above), and if the government isn't looking out for the people, that won't work very well. The Soviet Union failed due to mismanagement.

Actually it puts production into the hands of the workers. Party had little control over the production, unless you count the central planning agency- something which achieved incredible economic results- but this was weakened by the Kruschev reforms, who gave control to the factory managers, let party influence in, and distanced the factories from the central planning and the workers from collective ownership. Even then, government looked out for the people perfectly- I can write paragraphs and paragraphs here, but its enough to say conditions for the workers were absolutely the best in the USSR. And it wasn't really the mismanagement- more like Gorbachev's deliberate dismantling of the economy, completely destroying all production process.
