Here`s a short summary of my multiplayer experience with SC2 so far: 1) 9 out of 10 players I have met so far have played Terran. 2)All of these players have mass produced marines and reapers in order to charge as soon as possible. 3)This forces me to mass produce zerglings and hydralisks to counter. 4) Anything above this feels completely redundant, since all my fights have been over after these proceedings. 5) In short I have a bum-rush MPRTS with 2 units to choose from. and... a short, annoyingly stressful and mildly uninteresting single player campaign I`ve finished weeks ago. 6) After three attempts to get through the practise matches in multi player and literally falling asleep after 2-3 matches every time I am trying to come up with a reason to ever play SC2 again, or for that matter buy another Blizzard title ever again.
There is always going to be some limitation over early build options/choices. That said, you're description is overly simplistic. If those are really your only options then the limiting factor isn't the game, it is your ability to play it. If you improve you will have more flexibility. But the only really important thing here is whether you're having fun. If you're not, then by all means move on. Don't hold your breath if you came here looking to commiserate with someone though.
Why not play custom games or just skip the practice matches altogether = / I bet it'll be more interesting that way =)
Why join a fansite if you're not a fan in the first place. If you play chess and keep losing to Napoleon Opening and go to a chess forum and complain about how boring and unimaginative the game is my guess is people will throw vegetables at you. Same applies if you pick Sorceress at Diablo 2 and try to staff your way to Hell without using the various class skills. It won't work and if you don't use your brain to beat what's beating you you'll never improve and stay at that level forever. As for Marine/Marauder/Zealot balls: As the 2 guys above said, they get obliterated by banelings, try playing some games against AI and see what the units do.
I think zerglings also have the advantage of not having alot of hp, not the conventional way of more is better but slightly different. Users and AI target units such as zerglings by themselves, but because zerglings have so little hp, chances are, the damage done to kill them is significantly more than required. For instance, if you have a group of 6 marines shooting at the zerglings, they will probably do too much damage to specific zerglings and not enough to the group. The problem is much greater (or the zergling is much more cost efficient) when a user target fires, but that rarely ever happens by mistake or on purpose. Zerglings + banelings + roaches or Zerglings + mutalisks are great ways to fight the infantry mix
That's very true! Consider the Zealot VS Zergling encounter. A zealot will do 2 hits for 32 damage and then only 3 out of the next 16 points of damage will be done to the zergling which totals a ~27% total damage lost to the zealot against the zerglings. Give them a +1 upgrade and you'll see a 50% effective damage increase as the zealots will 2shot instead of 3shot the lings having no hits gone wasted and only 1 point if damage out of 36 or ~2% total damage lost. That's why soft+fast attacking units are good dps, like mass marines or zerglings. You get very little damage leaks due to overkills and things like zergling attackspeed and marine stimpacks maximise that to very effective levels.
i wish 9 out of 10 players were terran when i play ladder i would say its 7out of 10 are zerg and i HATE ZvZ matches!!! zerglings and hydras vs marines and maruaders? i've never tried that (im not the best sc player at all!) but muta , baneling and zerglings work well agaisnt that
