In reply to the original OP: of course there are female gamers.

But will you find many playing SC2? No. So you won't find many girl gamers here. Even if there WERE a large female population on this forum, you should not take your poll to be indicative of how many girls play games. Because this poll examines a specific demographic (SC2 fans) which doesn't necessarily reflect other demographics. For example: I know several ladies that play Kingdom Hearts II, but none that enjoy StarCraft. The SC2 player demographic is overwhelmingly male. To ascertain how many women are gamers, you'd probably have to conduct a fairly broad game-by-game analysis.

And while women play a large variety of games, they seem to be attracted to certain genres more than others (just like their male counterparts). But you have to be careful with that notion, too. I've seen articles on WOW that suggested that between 25-45% of WOW players are female. But that doesn't mean that women love to play all MMORPGs. EVE Online is a case in point: only 5% of its players are female.

So, WoW and EVE are both MMOS. Why, then, isn't EVE popular with women? Because it's Sci-fi? That's unlikely, seeing how women read more Sci-fi than men. (Actually, women read more than us, period.) Well, this is speculation, but I suggest that WOW is more open and supportive, while EVE is a much more brutal, cut-throat world --qualities that many men are drawn to. But most women seem to eschew PvP. As a result, most PvP titles' communities are predominantly male. That might explain the disparity. And that might also account for the small SC2 female population: it's purely a PvP game.

Be advised my friend, not every computer is appropriate for lizards. With my rig for example, that lizard on, would only burn its butt off! My Geforce 9800 GX2, gets very hot. ;)

    Interesting fact, dude.
I'm not a great fan of PvP either, but I knew once a woman who played or still plays on a WoW PvP server. Well, she is different, she comes from Texas. So no surprise here.

meh, we speak of averages, so there should be plenty of people outside of that. I myself do not really enjoy pvp, but prefer a gripping storyline or an interesting world.
