    Mainly just buffed up stats, maybe there were weapons/armor only for the upper classes, but not sure. Other than that:
    Warrior -> Knight - Basic white magic (imo pretty useless)
    Thief -> Ninja - Basic black magic (haste and temper is all you need anyway ;) )
    Black Belt/Monk -> Master - er, nothing?
    Mages -> Wizards - higher level magic, also iirc some lower level spells were only accessible by wizards

    As for upgrades, yes. I'd say White Mage and Thief get the best buffs. Although Thief is probably the worst class in the game anyway. Black Mage comes close second (imo)

    I haven't played with monk, so can't really comment on this, but he probably deals most damage of all classes (and without weapons too).
    I'd say White Mage is best, it can't do much on it's own, but is pretty much neccessary if you aim for a good balanced party. Warrior is always good to have because of decent damage and best defense. Red Mage does a little of everything which surprisingly pays off in FF1.
    If I ever replay again I'll go with Warrior, White Mage, Red Mage and Monk. Unless I forget, in which case I might pick BM again, I hope not

    What's with Sarda dissing wizards? Wasn't he the one who did it?

    Also, ranger. Let's see. 3 arrows is 3 attacks per turn. With dual wield it's 6. Quad wield gives 12.
    Since he's a ranger he surely has !Rapid Fire, which lets him attack 4 times for 50% damage (=200% overall).
    So it's 48 attacks for the damage of 24.
    As a ranger/ranger he prolly can dual rapid fire or something resulting in 192 attacks with damage of 48 or 96 depending on how he interprets it.

    Per turn.
