Here is a good question though how can one prove that his god is the only god? Or his god is the real god? I mean with all the differant religions you have out there with all the differant gods how can one say one religion is wrong compared to another? By the way in the bible doesn't god give sort of a clue that there are indeed other gods but that he was the most important. He told the jews not to worship any other god. He didn't say he was the ONLY god he said hes the only one they should worship. Also Why is it people say GOD= the name of god when the actual name he was given by the jews in the egyptian era was Yahweh it seems that name was lost in translation somewhere. The word god is used to describe an all powerful being its not a name. I am not saying any of this isn't wrong or that its all right I am simply asking for someone who is religios to explain some of this to me.

Just for fun I think I will. The bible does indeed tell us not to worship any other gods before him. He tells us through Mosses and the 10 commandments. God doesn't say "Thou shall not worship any other gods before me" because there are other gods, he says that because often people back then made their own gods. As in when Mosses came down from the Mount and he found the bull "god" made of gold. It was a god that the corrupt in the camp of Mosses created. Upon seeing the corruption Mosses threw the commandment slates at them and sent the lot to hell.

So to answer you question God was just referring to 'gods' that we made for ourselves or of ourselves. In Genesis Chapter 3 verse 5 the serpent is tempting Eve with the apple saying:
"No, God knows well that the moment you eat of it your eyes will be opened and you will be like gods who know* what is good and what is bad ."

in the bible the * leads to a sub-reference that reads : Like gods who know, or "like God who knows"

Anyway basically a teaching of the church is that only God can decide what is right or wrong for us to do, so the serpent was saying that by gaining this knowledge and being able to decide what was right and wrong for us made us have the status of "god". So any reference in the bible or any other catholic source to other gods isn't talking about other beings that are on the same level of God, but rather idea's, people, and things that are made out to be like God and are put to a higher importance to him.

    Answer your question?

O sorry missed that part in your text. When Mosses was given the commandments God told him that God shall go nameless and that God you shall call me fore I am the one true lord your God. Or something along those lines. Basically God told Mosses that he shall be referred to as God. Which is why God doesn't have or need a name aside from God.

Hehe, I can see I'm not needed here, but I'm not sure you decisively answered whether there are other god or not. There can still be other gods, it's just that the Christian god said not to worship them.
Also, in the Genesis quote, it still only says like god(s), it doesn't say that they are or aren't gods.
Is there any decisive 'proof' in the Bible that there aren't any other gods or that no other god(s) exist?

We get decisive proof when Mosses is talking to God on Mout Sian hmm I know I misspelled that, but o well I'm to lazy to look it up. Anyway when God is telling Mosses about his name he says "I am the one God"

Other than that there are few other references here in there mostly minor. But all in all the teaching goes that the references to other gods in the bible is just towards people who create gods of themselves (think gods of themselves) or other things.

So yes there is proof in the bible that there is only one God, but it is only proof if you believe in the bible and such n such.

Before you said that god said he was the one true god, not the one and only god. There could still be other deities around. Obviously god wouldn't say "There are also some other gods, but please don't worship them. Pretty please?".
By the way, what's the Christian views on Satan?

God says a lot in different words but we understand the meaning being that he is the one and only God (we being the church).

Satan was a Seraphim, which is of the highest rank out of the nine choirs of angels, named Lucifer. He decided he didn't want to worship God any longer and wanted to make a god of himself. Another reference to freewill, even God's angels have it. Lucy betrayed God and as such was sent to dwell on earth which because of Adam and Eve he gained power over all the land until Jesus went down and broke the gates of hell to release Lucy's hold on the holy and the land. And now Lucy spends his life tempting the rest of us to do evil and so on.

Thats a very quick history but does that help?

Yeah it does. So is Satan actually a deity? Does he actually have powers?
Also, what's the origin to the name Satan?

    No satan is a Seraphim:

    Isaiah 6:2
    -Seraphim are angels that fly Above the lords throne The seraphim angels had six wings and with two of there wings they covered the face and also with two wings they covered there feet and the reason they did this is cause the fact that the were so bright no man could look at them like god does and with the other two wings out of the six wings they had they would fly with The seraphim's in heaven called out to on another saying or singing;
Holy, Holy, Holy, Is the lord almighty
The whole earth is full of his glory.

He only has power over fear so if you have fear Lucy has some power over you.

I'm not sure where satan comes from, it may not even be a Christan thing so I'd have to look it up.

Satan is just a shorter form of Saint Lucifer just some moron got lazy in pronouncing the whole name so he made a shorter version he liked better.

But anyways I worship the roman gods. It sounds weird but I get good turn outs. I was a christian but I lost much faith in the god(which historicly the jews called Yahweh.) when I was thrown into harsher living I won't go into details. But when I worshiped the roman gods Mainly Zeus, Athena, Apollo, Ares, Aphrodite, and a few others. But mainly those but I haven't chose the center of my worship because usually you need to worship primarily one of these depending on what your career or lifestyle is. Anyways I was just wondering because I always wondered what it said about other gods in the bible.

It is so much easier and better for you to worship the one and true God. Man will always try and perverse God, saying it is a waste of time, or using him as a tool to enforce their own control. I tell you friend, this is blasphemy to God . . . the true god, the essence of love would not want you to feel enslaved by him. He came to help you be free. If you try overlook God, you will never find him. Roman gods were created by man, it is obvious since the gods in those stories behaved and acted the same way as humans did. God on the other hand, was all-loving, all-powerful, and came to us to free us from the shackles of our possessive evil. With that said I believe worshipping THE God has more spiritual benefit then worshipping the roman gods. Critics of the bible and of God will always pinpoint petty details to prove their case against God, yet they fail to look at it all from a spiritual point of view, that God is with us, God loves us, God is meant to set us free, God's power is yours to take as long as you believe and embrace him.

i would have to disagree the gods of the romans are extremely spiritual and it is narrow minded for you to make such a statement. Look at the priests of apollo that still reside today in turky the benefits of worshiping the roman gods are both spiritual and elemental. One could pray to Apollo and a few other gods for a day with out rain. It will happen if the faith if real. But to also say that the roman gods
acted as humans did is also a poorly educated assumption as they act in ways that humans will never possibly understand. You say my god was created by humans but can you prove to me that moses didn't just lie about the bush to make up a god on his own to begin his own nation or rise to power? I am not putting down your religion but hypothetically i am just saying your religion in everyway that counts is just as real as mine, and it can also be just as equally made up as mine.

Shogun. Not only have you repeatedly not answered my question, but your posts are just all about the true god, who is all-knowing, all-giving, all-everything. This isn't contributing to the conversation at all. You're, more or less, just repeating your original post in different words.
The Roman gods have the same chance of existing as the Christian god does. Just saying that your god is more spiritual or whatever doesn't prove anything. If a religion is wrong then it's made up. There isn't any decisive proof that any religion isn't wrong, so every last one could have been made up. If they are, then whatever religion would have been made to be so spiritual. Just because you say that your religion is spiritual, it doesn't mean that it's correct.
Blackskies. Are you aware that the Romans pretty much copied the Greeks belief system? If so, why did you chose to believe the Roman version over the Greek one? If not, does it alter your opinion?
don_bocci. What's the Christian views on animals' afterlives? Do they believe that the souls of animals or pets go to heaven or only human ones?

Personally I find the Greek as a more interesting mythology, and I find the Roman's more interesting in its military.

But humans are animals as well. Why did god create all these different animals but only give one of them souls? On top of that, why was the one he chose to have souls humans?

Its in Genesis ch 1 vrs 27

"Then God said: 'Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. Let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, the birds of the air, and the cattle, and over all the wild animals and all creatures that crawl on the ground.'"

God gave man the right to rule over all other living things.

Humans have souls because we are made in the image and likeness of God.
    That answer question yes?

That doesn't explain why he only gave humans souls. He would have put all that effort into making other companions and creatures but without giving them souls they can't enter the afterlife. What's the point of having them to begin with then?
