You guys are missing something very important: Water. Sure, you might be on an island, but none of that water is drinkable without special tools. What I would do is barricade our mall, There's TONS of chokepoints and food stations, and the roof is only accessible by ladder, so it would be fairly easy to hide up there at last resort.

 

What if the Zombie plague is started by an airborne parasite? What then?

I beg to differ. It's much more likely for a Zombie plague to be transmitted though airborne parasite initially....Afterwards, it can spread through blood and saliva.

This parasite would suck your systems dry of energy and life, thusly causing your death. Having consumed your life force, so to speak, this parasite is now strong enough to control muscle impulses, which is why the dead walk.

 

Back to the island then. Mosquitoes can't fly in wind faster than 7 mph, so if your isolated on an island then I think your set. You just need the right stuff, and we all know what that is.

I'm not sure why he did bring up mosquito's but that does raise a very good question that couldn't mosquito's transfer the illness increasing the danger ten fold? When you think about it being transmitted from blood a mosquito could quite easily transfer this disease with a bite, in the same way it carriers other viruses ex) west nile and yellow fever just a few. So this could quite easily ruin many of the zombie plans posted here so now I must ask

Mosquitoes are attracted to Carbon Dioxide. Zombies don't breathe, so no CO2. No worries there.

 

I guess I should have been more specific. I'm talking about when the virus is in its incubation period in the host. During this time the host would be infected so still breathing meaning the virus could be transmitted by mosquito and once on has it, it's only a matter of time before many more have it.

 

Ah, I getcha. Yeah. See, there's really no way to stop a Zombie plague except with gratuitous use of Rob Zombie.

 

Yeah, I sorta just grouped mosquitoes in with air born parasites..they are both annoying and are both capable of spreading the plague.

Really, the only way to not be infected is to be the hero in some movie....

Also, fresh water shouldn't be a problem in my plan as any island with growth on it has some access to fresh water. Usually any island with a volcano on it has enough elevation to generate small streams.

There are no islands that have mountains unless it's a volcano....

Most islands are produced one of three ways:

Volcanic Hotspot

Formed Volcano

Archipelagos (formed over millions of years by reefs)

Most of the islands with fresh water somewhere on them will have a volcano.

 

I'd go for an extinct one if I were you.....

Fenix, I found the perfect island for you. I suggest you head for La Palma in the Canary Islands, since you like dormant volcanoes so much!

 

No no no, dormant and extinct are NOT the same.

Dormant=Period between eruptions. Oft times, lava is visible and oozing. Sleeping.

Extinct=No lava visible, no residual heat. Dead, as far as we know.
