i wasn't trying to bring abortion into it, trust me x3

i'm just saying i agree with euth and death penalty, but not abortion. just because i normally get hell from OH HO HO, a catholic agrees in a death of a person, madness. why don't you agree in other deaths. So anyway, no more of that, that's the only reason i put it x3

also, being in a vegetated state would suck, or in a coma. but i suppose the biggest issue is when do ou pull the plug if they're in a coma? I mean, their brain still works and such, but their body won't respond. they're still the same person. how can you kill them knowing that? and w/o knowing if they'd want it? that's the part that always gets me the most. they consider it euthanasia, tho. in that situation, it becomes hard to decide.

Actually its the opposite, their brain doesnt work, their body may (or may not, but thats besides the point)

'What Happens When Someone Is in a Coma?
Someone who is in a coma is unconscious and will not respond to voices, other sounds, or any sort of activity going on nearby. The person is still alive, but the brain is functioning at its lowest stage of alertness. You can't shake and wake up someone who is in a coma like you can someone who has just fallen asleep.'

quoted from an actual medical site, so it's not some stupid wiki thing anyone can change. the brain is still functioning...the body doesn't. please check your facts xD

I'll have to go with freedom of choice because sometimes death can be merciful. However, I would try to help them get through the pain as best as possible before resorting to an end of life. Atleast then they could at least try to get through it and make the best of what life they have left before just giving up.

Now, if they were in coma or some other situation where they couldn't communicate what they want then we have a problem. If I know for certain they would never recover then maybe I might do it but I don't think I have the right to make that kind of a decision for another person.

'there lacks a certain continuity between the former person and the later person.' and 'is unconscious'. How is that not problem with the brain?

Being unconscious doesn't necessarily mean there is something wrong with the brain. I mean when you sleep you are pretty unconscious in most cases but its a natural process.

Also techinally you said "doesn't work" but it still does work and function at some level.

didn't say it wasnt' a problem with the brain? Just that it still functions, hurrr.
Just because you're unconscious doens't mean your brain isn't working, and it operates on its lowest level. being in a coma isn't braindead. It still works, and they may be different but the brain is still working. so don't try to twist my words, kthx ^ ^

Aight, Ill change my statement to 'doesn't work properly'. Just because you arent completely braindead doesnt make your brain fine and your body the cause. Stephen Hawkings body is fairly screwed yet his brain is fine. Your in coma because there is something wrong with your brain, not your legs or hands.
And please stop this silly childish arguing over words. I just corrected you because its fairly important to know the difference between damaged brain and damaged body when it comes to deciding someones life/death.

i know what causes a coma, thanks. I'm going to become a EMT and i was in an advanced biology class and read my mom's nursing books. I never said the body was the cause, did i? it's not about wording, it's that you were blatantly wrong by saying the body works. though the body may be fine, it doesn't work, sorry.

Anyway, it'd still be a hard decision to make. their brain still works, even if it doens't perform as usual. but on the thing, they might not be the same person, but then again they might return to normal. how do you decide when to just finally let them die? after they've been in a coma a long time? wouldn't mean they'd necessarily not be the same person. it'd be hard, i think.

Assisted suicide lol, the topic itself from the start is.... an ethical issue... If i assist to kill a person in a good purpose is it euthanasia?? Do I violate his right to live even under his consent of allowing me to terminate his life? Is that morally proper? I would say that only under circumstances of no-return/hopeless scenarios will be this resort acceptable. For me, a life that is degrading and hopeless is still a life, I would rather live the pain to die than have another person suffer guilt of comitting a possible moral crime.

One word. Morphine. Which then leaves the question of : What eternal pain?

Really though, I'd stop them. There's still hope as to curing whatever may be causing the pain. Besides, killing yourself? Come on... at least die like a man... Suiciding is a sign of weakness. It means you're too weak to cope with everyday life.

morphine is highly addictive. and sometimes it doens't work. some people have immunities, some people are allergic, and it kills pain receptors and pleasure receptors. there's a lot of stuff wrong with morphine and you're not supposed to take it for long periods of time, either, if i'm correct.

Talking of Morphine and suffering of dying people, this is one of the main reasons why I am for legalization of marijuhana.

If someone needs to be on morphine or a pain killer for their entire life then they wouldn't be living for very long..

    Wrong wrong and more wrong.

First off, and this is coming from someone with chronic pain, every single painkiller, yes, even opiates and narcotic-based ones, have diminishing returns. They eventually don't work as well. The only choice is to up the dosage or switch, both of which can wreak havoc with your body.

If I had luekimia, I would honestly rather die than live with the possibility of a cure popping up and getting passed by the FDA in the next six months.

    Oh wait.

It takes two years for anything to be approved for medical use. That is the literal minimum time.

Suicide is NOT a sign of weakness. It is NOT the easy way out. Living with the horrible terrible pain of many diseases is just flat out masochistic. And extreme masochism is a mental illness.

Suicide is only an option for something that has no cure and that leads to death anyways. I thought we found equal ground on this already. In any case that is the only reason for suicide.

Also don't bash on the FDA believe it or not that department has saved the US from a tone of disasters. I'll have to find the info on it again, but once there was a drug that the FDA didn't approve for small pox I think. While the rest of Europe and I think Canada did. The result was after several years babies becoming deformed and having birth defects. So yeah.. The FDA unlike other departments of the federal government has earned its grade in my opinion.

Yeah- found it look up thalidomide and see what the FDA saved us from.

Yeah look at all the other things the FDA's passed that's effed us up.

Watch TV for ten minutes, you'll see a class action lawsuit against this or that medication that the FDA's passed.

Youre making it look so easy. Its like if every single (mentally) healthy man could comit suicide whenever he wanted to but he isnt because hes afraid of what the society would think of him. It takes real motivation and dedication to follow through a suicide attempt. There perhaps the strongest instinct of all - self-preservation in you way and if you can overcome it you must have had hell one of a good reason to do so.
And how is slow death in a bed and with diapers on dying as a man? I wouldnt drag manhood into this at all.

saying suicide is the easy way out is like saying driving is the weak man's way of walking. i don't give a crap if you have to go 40km to get to work every day, just get your fat ass out of bed 4 hours earlier and start walking. everyone who drives a car is a WEAKLING. be a MAN and get around town the MANLY way.
