We do have electric cars. They aren't massed produced yet because they are: not shown on the showroom floor, not well known, and last time I checked, not up to par with gasoline cars. They even have vehicles that run on compressed air as well.

There is no major company that produces 100% electric cars besides Tesla.

Ah I didn't know you wanted only electric cars.Yeah for a company that only make electric cars there is only Tesla that I know of. I think it's just because we don't want to give up what we have become used to. Just like with the switch to steam power so many years ago. It was different and was fought for awhile. Same thing can apply to electric cars.

    Specs for the EV1:
160 mi (260 km) range per charge
    0–60 mph (0–100 km/h) in eight seconds
    Max speed of 80 mph (130 km/h)

I'm fairly sure this would sufficient for near any urban dweller. So why isn't it on the market? Hell if I know.

Oh, and just to put it into perspective, this thing was made in 1996-1999. Imagine what we could do with ten years of technological advances?

Because the oil companies buy out any significant advances and they're never heard from again.

    Not necessarily.

With the case of the EV1, it wasn't bought it, production was just halted. A completely fail reason, can't recall what it was atm was given for it. It had nothing to do with big oil, it was solely GM's decision.

Many people think it's the oil companies that are stopping electric cars. I don't think it is. Oil companies don't feel threatened by electric cars. I just think i's that way because most car companies are too afraid to sell them. They have guys that are paid to give them estimate of sales, if they give a low estimate they won't sell them. The Tesla people probably ignored this because they also realized that maybe it's worth the risk.

They won't release any electric car because it'll take time to recharge it... like iPod ;)

Not very long, I think I heard once that starting at no charge at all, it'd take around 6 hours to fully charge the car. So basically you can charge it while you sleep at night, then drive it all during the day.

It takes the average car 3-4 hours to fully charge. Over an hour long lunch period, you can get up to a 50 percent charge. Good enough for me.

Why do we kill people who kill people to show that killing people is wrong?

I think they kill them, to punish them and warn other potential killers. It's one of the worst punishments we can imagine so it's supposed to work.
    Also, they're that stupid

I'm going to quote a line form Hitman now because I believe that to be a good answer. If I believe that a person means t do harm to me or my family then I will do whatever it takes to stop that, after that, it's a crap shoot.

I would define a person as a conscious entity, that has some degree of self awareness.

Although, how you determine whether something has consciousness and self-awareness is always going to be prejudiced, because it is only ever an opinion, and never really proven.

From an ethical perspective, I'd much rather grant personhood and be wrong, than not grant it and be wrong. But then I have always erred on the side of compassion.
