Guys Hillzagold's offline so thats why he hasn't rewarded any one but I'm about 90% sure the answer was that its a square.

Why would it be a square?

It's a theroy thats been talked about before. I heard about it in school a few day ago acctually, but he said he would raise the prize if no one answered so I waited.

Heres another question, what shape is the universe?

We don't know since we can't see past the event horizon.

I mean all of your answers could be right *not for this question but like in all*. (I especially like lord ;)) But I am going by whats on the theory that the infinte circle is a square so nah none right yet.

but I can show you why a circle of infinte size would be a straight line of a sphere of infinte size would be a plane

    an infinite circle hmm.

The key to answering the question is what is infinite about the circle in question.  If its area then it would be a infinite plane defined on a polar coordinate system.  I don't think asking about a circle with an infinite perimeter makes sense since a perimeter defines a boundary for the circle and by definition, to be infinite something must be without bound.

Now I'm trying to figure out more abstract possiblilities.  Lets take the case in which you define a sphere as a three dimensional circle.  Now let the dimension of the circle go to infinity.  Such an object is impossible to visualize but it can be mathematically defined quite easily.  However, I think this is a bit to abstract to be a likely answer

Another possiblity is a circle which you have to go around an infinite number of times before you arrive at where you started.  There are many many complex funcions that if you go around the unit circle in the plane of the functions domain you will find that the function value of 2*Pi does not equal the funcion value at 0.  In many of these functions if you go around the circle enough times you arive at where you started, however some never return to the original value.  I'm not sure what function you would have to circuit the unit circle an infinite number of times before returning to your starting point but I bet one exists.

PS the universe is most definitely not a plane.

PPS, I understand what LordKerwyn is saying about an infinite circle or sphere since they would have zero curvature they woulld be a straight line or a sphere. However, I'm not sure I by that. By that logic the real line for example would be a circle. My guess, that is just what my intuition tells me and that is often wrong, is that an infinite circle would have no bound thus not even have a boarder of any kind. However, this may just be a difference in perspective. I agree the surface of an infinitly volumous sphere would appear to be a plane however If your persepective is from within the sphere tlaking about its boundary would make no sense so I don't think an infinite sphere as a surface.

Ok yeah.... I made a mistake. I shouldn't really call this a theroy, its more a debate going on, not a large scale debate between scientists. I can't really say its that big but I dont know that much, all I know is its big enough for me to hear about it in school, but yeah I wouldnt call this a theroy.

arg....my head is spinning with all this. I've never heard about all this stuff with infinate circles and whatnot.
