Where only cool people live... So Cal!
Well Kurai, Communism doesn't mean an end to Democracy. Socialism is the progression from Capitalism, which is an economic way of doing things. Having a Socialist/Communist state does not mean that there is no democracy. What happens is that when Socialism is rushed, the state tends to make Socialism the ONLY political party, which is not real democracy.

You also have to realize Kurai that American version of democracy is not that democratic. For example, the president his/herself is not voted directly by the people. The people vote, their voices are heard, but in the end, it is decided by the Electoral College. Number of delegates depends on the population of states, for example, California the most populous state, so they have the most. Every state is entitled to 4 delegates. The delegates do not have to vote where the will of the people take them, granted, it seems dirty, but they don't have to. That's partly why Bush beat Gore in 2000. Another thing is that since Wyoming has so little people, for example, the whole state is considered one county, so they get 4 delegates. California however, is sepereated into many counties, and, for example, LA county, has MILLIONS of people, yet it still only gets 4 delegates.

And also, for the democratic party, the whole notion of super delegates is completely illogical. A group of people who were made to COUNTER the will of the majority? That's completely illogical. It's just political elitism.

See Kurai, our system isn't exactly a perfect system, nor a completely democratic system, but its the system that's worked since Washington was elected president. Eventually, it might have to be fixed up though, considereing that that system wasn't made for a nation this big. It was originally made so that states such as Virginia would not overtake smaller states such as Delaware and New Jersey.

@Kurai: Communist organizations are legal in the US. It's forbidden by law to be prosecuted for political motivations. AFAIK there are about ten organizations right now.

I personally thought Democracy was a worse form of government than Communism. In theory at least, Communism is a much better form of government than democracy. The problem is that people are not ready for communism. Just as the majority of governments started out with monarchy -> feudalism -> democracy, I think the next step in this evolution of governments is socialism, and then communism. In any case, they're not changes I see happening any time soon, at least in the US.

@Wick: by theory, they are legal. but in reality, the oppositce coudl be true. either way, thank you, i didn't know that ^-^

ah, i see itsmyship, thank you. and ofc, no system is perfect. People who are powerhungry always come in and screw everything up sooner or later. It's no wonder democracy isn't great here. I swear, if Hillary gets voted as the Pres (which she won't) it will be the end of the world and we all can kiss our butts goodbye. She'll do some pretty dumb things, and lie her ass of about tons of things. She'll probably do the same to communism. Becuase, she was opposed to the olympics in Beijing, not just because of Tibet, too.

Well, communism does not necessarily mean the end to democracy... Even though I think the current model of democracy in almost all countries is very flawed. First of all, the whole inflated political compaigning and the immense selfish power greed of the candidates really undermines any fairness of it all. No one is a villain in their own eyes. They decieve the public to try to vouch for their votes. Not to deny, a great amount of the public can't make a smart decision for themselves. And of course, once things start to go bad, people suddenly get angry and zealous, even though it was them who elected this guy. That undermines the whole state and the govt. will have difficulties forcing its politics. ''We hang the petty thieves and appoint the great ones to public office''

The whole majority thing can also be troublesome. Sure, it seems good, but if 50.1% elect someone, the other 49.9 will not be so happy. Also, if the elected condidate has some special views, some groups will be alienated and have more trouble. The whole voting process also often gets into difficulties. It doesnt unite the state. It also hinders progress, with everyone of different parties squabling among eachother. Also remember all the corruption in developing ''democratic'' states.

Now, it was a bit more simple in USSR. Of course, ussr wasnt very democratic, but with tweaks and liberalisation it could have proved more effective. A council selects a leader. All of the above mentioned points suddenly dissapear. No compaigning, a more proffessional leader selected by proffesionals. Everything goes much quicker. And if there are some problems, the council could simply remove him from his post, and not have all the long and boring stage of complaining. The word ''soviet'' (From which Soviet Union comes from) means council. Councils between and repressenting all people, voting democratically. The word communism comes from the french word ''commune'' meaning council. The council repressents the real majority, that is the working classes (And not some elitist bourgeoisie president).

That also requires a mature state. It was not exactly as mentioned above in the ussr. But it could have been, if it wasnt for all the dictatorship. But to those who say communism is too hard to achieve, democracy is even harder. These 2 things go hand in hand.

    @ Marinefreak-

It may seem that the society we are living in today is pretty much perfect, being a mix of socialism and capitalism. But this is wrong. This is not the best way things could go, and that without any ''impossible'' social structures. If we are living in a socialist state, communism should be our goal. We must not forget that. Otherwise, we are pretty much stagnating, staying at the same level without any progress.

Once again to reiterate Communism IS NOT a form of government

On the subject of democracy it doesn't exist on a national scale. The countries who claim to be democratic are actually republics

The reason the USSR failed was because the government lost site of the peoples needs and they held nationalism and the Cold War as higher importance than the citizens and ended up screwing up the economy

Communism and socialism are economic systems with capitalism and free market on the oposite end of the spectrum

Communism and socialism mean that the covernment is in control of deciding what to produce and who gets what with communism dictating that eveerything belongs to the community (hence the COMM part) (not a single country has a true communism) By contrast capitalism and the free market economy dictate that supply and demand should control what is sold to whom and in a true free market government should not interfere at all (does not exist anywhere)
