well lets say for some reason the police are looking for you (good or bad) and they don't have any information on you other then your public records. Now lets say for some odd reason they don't have a picture in those records of what you look like. If they have a form where you checked off you were white, black, hispanic, or w/e then they got that much more info to go on.

It's called political correctness, and was invented by a world full of people too afraid of offending others with nonoffensive things, and people who get offended by everything thus necessitating such fear.

    Bump?

In my opinion it's simply to do with formality. 'Caucasian' is merely more formal than 'white', so that's why it's used in official documents, reports, etc, etc. It's the same as how people say 'yours truly' or 'sincerely yours' before signing off, in that it's just more formal that 'cheers' or 'cya'. It's not as though 'Caucasian', the word, was invented for the sake of political correctness. It's just a word that's synonymous to 'white'.

In my opinion people talking about the extreme political correctness of the word is more prejudice than anything else. It's just trying so bash political correctness that it's completely counter productive.

well its completely annoying, i would rather have the world speak its mind then have some one say one thing while meaning another.

That and its funny as all get out.

What's completely annoying? And what's the word 'Caucasian' got to do with speaking your mind or saying one thing and meaning another?

Well i was talking about the political correctness right there, but it's also annoying to have more then one word that has the same meaning.

Ah gotcha. But as for having more than one word, that's imply part of the language. Words with the same meaning can have come from different roots, have slightly different implications, different registers, different everything. Even different sounds are important to language.

Even 'Caucasian' and 'white' have different registers, despite meaning the exact same thing. You generally wouldn't say 'white' where you'd otherwise say 'Caucasian', and vice versa, just as you generally wouldn't say 'carked it' where you'd otherwise say 'passed away'.

That's not to say 'white' is too informal, as it's still commonly used in official places, but they still have their own uses, like 'big' and 'huge'.

Carked it? Dude, I seriously need a handbook of Down Under Slang.

Honestly, I don't really care what I'm called...The whole 'race' thing is simply a division. I know I probably sound self-righteous or something, but we're humans. That's it.

Yeah, if you could understand the title, you wouldn't need the book.

Lawl! That's hilarious. Eggnishner, that is, not whatever mannishness is.
