The year is supposed to be however many years after he was born, meaning that the year 2008 is 2008 years after he's born.

But it was miscalculated in the first place. I don't remember if it was by 6 or how many years, but it was

LOL! That's funny. Another thing I don't get is that if Xmas is supposed to be his birthday, why isn't that the start of the new year? Is that another miscalculation?

No wait, it's the other way around. Jesus was born in BC (Before Christ ^^ ). But they don't have enough proofs to tell exactly which year.

The beginning of the year is January, because it was that way before current calendar was adopted.

So it was the Romans who designed the months and Christianity that started counting the years, right? Anyone know how the Romans counted years before 0 A.D.? We've got records of things that happened in 500 B.C. so how do we know it happened then if they didn't keep track of years?

I'm not saying absolutely no-one kept track, but what was their's based on? If our current system started with Jesus being born, what started theirs?

Gregorian calendar was decreen in 1582 and was based on Julian calendar which was introduced in 46 BC. Before that there were other Roman calendars and probably something before that, dunno

1917. Corrected. MarineCorp messed up back on page 204. Way to keep checking the number, guys. :p

Yeah, I guess that all calendars would have to be based on something, but the original calendar would have to be a heck of a lot different to the one we have now.
Also, most probably already know this, but the Romans actually added two months to the calender, which is why october is the tenth month, november is the eleventh month and december is the twelfth month. It also explains why February has less days than the others because the number of days couldn't be divided and then split evenly into twelve.

you posted the wrong number as much as I did ;)

lol I never noticed that about months' names. Maybe 'cause in Polish they have nothing to do with numbers.
I want someone to make working calendar with months that have all 28 days
There could be one additional month for the leftover days, leap years and whatnot

Yeah, but if I blame you guys, then I'm not being blamed for it, so I mustn't be in the wrong.
Haha, no matter how someone tried, I doubt that the calendar is going to change. Heck, some countries are still using imperial measurements. If they're taking their sweet time converting to metric, I don't think a total calendar change is going to take place any time soon.
Yeah, the months added were July, after Julius Caesar and August after Emperor Augustus. By the end of his reign, Augustus was practically deified. You know you've been a popular Emperor if the people create a month for you and worship you like a god.

    EDIT: Typo.

I'm not even hoping for that.
Besides, why would someone make a new calendar that wouldn't last five years?

@ Gizmo4life. Oops... Good spotting! June was after Jupiter's, the Roman god of gods, wife, Juno.
