Most of the times expansions sets come just one year after the main game release. But as Blizzard is working on other projects it could be 2 years. We'll see.

IMO I could see chat being slightly more active; when SC2 comes out I'll likely come to the chat to try and set up game or two with other forum members. Either that, or make a clone of the "Let's play StarCraft!" thread in the SC2 General Discussion board.
