UFO sightings are usually just swamp gas, or the planet Venus. Venus can be surprisingly bright in the night sky, and many people often mistake it for an artificial light source.

Yes, that's true. The subject would probably be scared to death.

I see your point as to why the scientists are trying to find water.

Basically, to change it so that we can live on it.

AFAIK it's not a totally fleshed out plan yet, just some general goals. Either way, it's not something we can look forward to, as with current technology, it could take centuries to completely terraform Mars.

It is a plan I watched a 2 hour documentary on it, they got conformation for the project. But yea the process would take centuries.
They still show it on discovery science from time to time.

Ooo, Terraform sounds interesting. Do you guys think that if we do ever find intelligent life, will it be dangerous or friendly?

It'll depend on the manner we find them. If we discover them like we did most of the time in history, i.e. guns blazing, they'll be hostile towards us. But if we somehow manage to discover them peacefully without violating them, chances are they'll be friendly to us.

I find it highly unlikely that there is no intelligent life outside the bounds of the Earth system, simply because after billions of years on what are almost certainly quadrillions of worlds, something must have developed somewhere.

As for how we will meet:
Considering humanity's tendency to capture and study that which is unusual, and the propensity for violence, no self-preserving alien would be likely to make contact with our race. The only aliens who would do so are those who are looking for a fight, and if they are capable of bringing the fight to us across the vast reaches of space, then we would be so technologically unsuited to combat that we would almost certainly be conquered in a matter of days or even hours, depending on the aliens' level of sophistication. Aliens attempting adopt humanity and wean us of our violent ways would undoubtedly be met, at least initially, with resistance spawned by fear and hatred, regardless of the ultimate outcome of the alien project.

As far as UFO sightings, it seems unlikely that visitors advanced enough to travel the immense distances of interstellar space would choose those humans whose credibility would be called into question (i.e. crackpots) to initiate first contact. The nature of the purported experiments performed by said visitors seem to show an unusually precise knowledge of human anatomy already, raising the question of why these visitors continue their practice. The bug-eyed, two-armed two-legged types also seem to be awfully humanoid for a species that supposedly developed independently from the Earth environment.

Who says we're 100% Earth brewed tho ;)
'God' can be many things, and it can easily tie in with this topic, as 'God' simply refers to creator. If we can create simple life form and alter others, imagine what advanced beings could do? hint hint.

    Ummm... I'm not darktemplol_L, It's DarkTemplar_L.

And I guess your right 11-Sodium, since we capture what we want to study they might be hostile toward us.
