That's because Aussies don't look down on geeks too much. Our country is ok with them. Heck they keep companies like EB games in business. And that's gotta be a good thing. You're contributing to the economy of the nation.

Why isn't cool to be a gamer that should be the question. I admit im a gamer and I don't see anything wrong with that.

I'm not saying that being a gamer is necessarily fatal, but there's still that factor to consider.

On another note, I was at PAX 2010 in Seattle last weekend. Too bad, I couldn't get Krahulik and Holkins' autographs because they didn't have enough time for everyone.

Well, I find there is a clear difference between geek and nerd. A geek being someone who loves D&D, Live Action Roll Play... that kind of thing. A nerd being someone who loves computers, and computer gaming, and to a lesser extent console gaming. That's right, your avg 360 or PS3 player wouldn't fall into either category.

While I have had my far share of both sides though, I lean to the extreme end of nerdiness simply with my vast knowledge of computers. This extreme end made my click of nerd buddies during High School from 1998-2002 the most feared group in the school. Yes, far more then the football team or any jock. We were like the mafia for some reason. Whenever people were having a dispute, they looked to us for advice on how to resolve it.

I think this fear was based on a rumor that we could hack into the school records and change peoples grades.

......it WAS true but HOW did THEY find out about it? *shrugs*

I don't get some of my friends. They can play fifa, call of duty, gta and stuff like that non stop for the whole weekend. That's something "cool" to do apparently. But me having one 3 hour warcraft raid on a saturday is "nerdy". At least I still spend time outside and do other stuff. :p

Well i play on my computer and consoles for hours on ending, but i also play DnD, Warhammer fantasy/40k, etc for about the same time. So, i guess im a gerd as well. Also larping is pretty cool when done right, especially roman legion vs barbarian hordes scenarios.
