That time could vary from several minutes to several seconds. Also how well trained of a jedi are we talking about here? Because if they could do as you say then how is it obi wan was unable to make the bombs janga fet dropped out of his ship stable?

A Jedi can't stop a digital timer on a mine.

no, but in one of the books, a healer jedi was able to work on a microscale(picking out individual nanobots in someones body), and she wasn't very good. So i could imagine a trained jedi healer being able to work on the microscale of atom bomb, and affect the unstable plutonium so it stabilizes.

it'd take hours though, so they are still lucky nukes arent part of their setting

Times like this you need an uber jedi like yoda to send the thing flying into space.

Whats the range of their ability to work on things? Cause if the missile is over head they have maybe half a second... Also the jedi wouldn't know how the bomb worked. If what your saying about the starwars universe having not discovered nuclear weapons yet.... Then how would they know to change the molecules in the device?

because healer jedi can look at the molecular level of something and see how something works

but no, they wouldnt be able to take out an overhead missile

Kind of funny if you think about Starwars now days.... They needed a giant space station to destroy a planet and all we need is a few well guided rockets.

Correction, we can destroy most life on a planet with nukes, they can in Star Wars with orbital bombardment, but that doesn't have the same fear factor as completely eradicating the planet.

Nuclear radiation is more terrifying then a planet exploding. The people on the planet wouldn't be terrified because they'd be dead. Also the nukes we have today are a lot larger then the ones we are more familiar with (Like Hiroshima and Nagasaki.) the bombs we have today. One bomb is enough to cover half of western europe in flames. The US government made sure to increase the radius of our nuclear warheads to cover the vast terrain of the USSR. So while it takes dozens if not hundred of ships in SW to do the same. It would take less than a few hundred nukes to eradicated the majority of life on the planet.

The rest of the galaxy would fear, the people hiding under their global defence networks, planetary shields would have a lot more to fear from a superlaser-toting extremely heavily armoured battlestation than a few inbound missiles (or a stardestroyer, orbital bombardment from which melts a planets crust). It's the basis of the Tarkin Doctrine...

The technology of SW would DEFINITELY have a point laser defense system.

nukes can only be used once, if we needed to wipe out 5 planets, we'd be screwed
