why did you give the thor an A. from its attack aesthetic and animation its unimpressive just like when it was release. The unit deserve a better type or attack effect and mechanism.

why did they remove the missile pod to attack air. I mean flak canons to shoot air units with the silly mediocre looking firing animation? wow.

Give the thor a charging beam when it fires with its two arm guns so that it will look powerful and not bland and passive.

    @ above:

Thor doesn't have a laser beam on its back, and besides if it did we'd have complaint on how the thor is just a terran's collosus. He gave the unit an a because it "found its place", so clearly its been changed from its original making. Not to mention in the 2v2 battle we saw it moves much faster and the animations for it seemed to run smooth.

who cares if it shoots like the coloosus what important is the mech is not mediocre compared to most mech in sci-fi universe. an advanced huge mech deserves better weapons not some flak canon on its back.

and its not really like the colosus, its like saying the bc is just like the warp ray.

i know it doesn't have a laser on its back. im talking about its 2 arm guns, its normal attack. Give it a charging energy effect and when it fires a huge red beam comes out. Right now its attack looks very boring and unimpressive its like firing huge shotgun shells which is very mediocre looking.

I guess its a matter of opinion then, because I laong with others find the cannons to fit in quite well, and look pretty good. In terms of how technollogically advanced the weapon is, I'm going to go ahead nad assume blizzard doesn't see those cannons as the same used on pirate ships a long time ago, but a futuristic heavily powered and heavily upgraded canon.
Again just a matter of preference.

Why energy weapons? Its not Terran-ish at all. Except battlecruiser (which uses plasma not laser anyway) Terran is all about explosives and artillery and I think everyone is fine with that and wants it to stay that way. If you want high energy weapons play for protoss.

well if there is another terran unit that could have an energy weapon that would be obviously the thor. an advance gigantic mech usually have energy weapons in most sci fi setting.

i dont know too much artillery is mediocre and trying hard if the case is just to make both race more different and make the terran more badass(it does not). im sure a single battlecruiser cost is equivalentl to a gazzilion energy /laser/plasma weapon supply for smaller units like the marines even the thor.

and this ain't warhammer 40k were superior artillery and explosive firepower is always badass.

well it doesn't seem like it. the attack from the videos looks unimpressive just like canons of pirate ships. haha.

an electrical attack, energy fusion bomb, or something similar is what i envision the thor should have as an ability.

Ever watched one of the Gundam series? A Mech really doesn't need lasers to impress. Besides, the Terrans don't even have real charging lasers. Just look at how primitive the Yamoto Cannon is with its crappy rate of fire. Also, the Thor should't become a walking Battlecruiser.

Dé ja vu. Zeratul, for the umpteenth time, there will be no energy, laser, beam, light, eletrocution, force, chi, or any other such concept in the Terran arsenal. You clearly fail to understand what the race is about so please stop repeatedly suggesting the same kind of sci-fi stuff over and over again.

why would u give the thor lazer beams and energy/particle cannons...? that stuff is more for the protoss race, the terran race is a human race and not near as adv as the protoss is. so the thor should be treated as such. terrans/humans are all amount shells/amunition/guns and all that human stuff. toss is about the lazer beams/particle cannons/psi/etc etc and all that protossy stuff. zerg is all about biolicigal and naturally gained weponry like using there claws/spines/carapace and all that alieny stuff...

so giving the thor any kind of lazer beam or something just wouldn't look right for the terran. humans/terrans are all about artillery and things that are more humanly realistic because they are not yet as advanced as the protoss. in other words there just a under developed race that have to rely on there human enginnuiety and there human abilities to learn and adapt to certain situations. in order to survive and stay on par with the adv and strong races like protoss and zerg.

so they have to use what they have available and what they can understand is possible for them and make use of that knowledge on the battle field. they do not know how the protoss are able to get there personal shields or there adv tech and there knowledge of distortion and etc, so they build things like the thor that can pierce thru those shields(or get rid of it entirely as is the case with emp shockwave) and that adv protoss tech by learning and studying the protoss race...

infact it is humanly possible to build something like the thor in rl today (altho it would cost trilions and trillions of $$$ and it wouldnt be all that good like it is in sc universe...) using our current tech but we cant make it shoot lazer beams cuz we just do not know HOW to do that even tho it MIGHT be possible... so that is what the thor is in the sc universe for the terran. it is made from what is humanly possible and wwhat the terrans have knowledge of. they do not have the knowledge to shoot lazer/particle beams so they cant put that on the thor...

Erm, we actually can fire lasers in real life. Big ones. It's just that the average "weapon" laser consumes the power of a medium sized town. Then there is the size. Those things will never fit in a tank in their current form, although they (nasa and military) DID put one in a plane. Watch discovery sometime, or search youtube Pretty awesome, those beams really are purple and red. :)

Still, conventional weapons are much more effective. Imagine what it would cost to build those things. Blizzard did a good job when they made the Protoss the most "expensive" race. Hehe.

Yes, about that. There is no freaking way such a big mech could move that fast - it looked ridiculous in the gameplay. I would like to... no, scratch that, I want to have the slow thor back. Again, such a giant can't move that fast, it defies the laws of physics!

Why can't it be made a mobile GTA turret? Here's the deal:
    • Turret: GTA, stationary, effective against heavy targets, cheap, low hitpoints, detection
    • Thor: GTA, GTG, mobile, effective against light targets, expensive, truckload of hitpoints, 250mm cannon ability
If the above way was taken, the thor would not overshadow the siege tank simply because of its speed - it would mostly be kept in the base, sort of like the queen, but of course it wouldn't be a clear mirror of it, so racial asymmetry would still be present. Don't tell me a slow moving patrolling thor in your base wouldn't look awesome.

Yes because apparently the laws of physics are so relevant to Starcraft.

I'm glad you think so too. I don't know how some people can overlook that, completely disregarding the efforts on Blizzard's part to implement realistic debris fall, bounce, animation and graphics, collision detection, and backing up unit designs with good, consistent lore even with respect to physics. Only someone who doesn't know anything about the aims of Blizzard with SC2 would say the opposite, even if in a convoluted way to appear funny.

lol... so organisms being able to survive in the vacuum of space and something being able to magically warp in an entire structure or being is not defying the laws of physics?

theres so many things in sc that defies the laws of physics and every other law of science that Einestine would cry blood tears =/

btw, im pretty sure higgs was being sarcastic in his comment that u quoted...

Actually I like the thors' current move speed. Its not that really fast and besides, it's year XXX already, by that time I believe vespene would be a 1000 times more efficient than diesel is. I have to say that even though starcraft is very much physics oriented, it doesn't mean that it have to follow the same rules that we in the current world are living at. For example, we can easily say that there should be various levels of gravity in each planet and different weathers but even though there is, it was not implemented in for the sake of having a lesser complicated game. On that small yet so obvious subject, we can conclude that SC universe follows a different form of physics and those are physics defined by game developers whims no one else! ^_^
