See, I understand that too. Problem with that is that the majority of the places don't even have the philisophical, disciplinary thing to it, they just kinda pretend and say they do. Most of it is just show nowadays. There's the occasional school out there that is in all the way with the mental AND physical stuff, and that's fine, problem is they're really hard to find.

Again, that's why I'm more drawn more to non-oriental ones...they teach you how it really is in a fight. I would rather have BJJ, Savate, Krav Maga, or Greaco in my arsenal than some oriental martial art, just cuz it feels like they don't do actual fight scenarios.

I'm not talking bad about any of those martial arts, its just my own personal opinion.

If you really wanted to become an amazing fighter, you could move to Tibet and join a monastery. Hey, it's your life...

    Yep, I agree completely.
The reason I think there are soo many Oriental Martial art school was because I believed that it looks flashy and cool when it was first introduced to the West. Everyone wanted to learn it. When that happens, you get a lot of crappy practitioners and crappy school. Like you stated, you could still find some people that are really dedicated and experienced in their art but it is very hard to find nowdays (unless you go to China which by the case, will probably be a lot more).

Not the case for the non-Oriental Martial art because they didn't looked all flashy and cool. Therefore, in the past, people weren't drawn into it. Therefore, the people that actually wanted to learn it didn't have as many crappy people. So most non-Oriental Martial arts that you see are more effective compared to the Oriental Martial arts nowdays because it is so hard to find a good Oriental Martial art school nowdays. It's very sad but true. :(

    Exactly Ych9.

Another martial art that I just thought of that I'm slightly less interested in, but still a possibility, is Russian SOMBO. Again, if anyone has any suggestions or know of a martial art that I don't, plz feel free to say it and explain what exactly it does. I'll be happy for any help out there :)

I have a friend who is big into capoeria but even he admits: dodging and weaving around is only as good as you can stay ungrappled. When Brute finally catches you you are broken in half before you can say ow.

I would go with Greco Wrestling. But then again it depends how your body is built.

Well, I'm not a big guy. I'm rather skinny, but not like skin and bones skinny. I'm basically 15, 5' 7", I weigh 130 lbs, And I have a decent amount of muscle in my upper body. What do you think I'd be suited to then?

Well, like I said, I'm not incredibly skinny. I have chest and abdominal muscle. But what exactly does it focus on, its intriguing me now.

Kenpo focuses more on fast maneuvers and counter-attack. Advance lessons involves more on hitting vital organs. If you are specialized in this art you can broke the neck or ribs of your opponent in a second. Possibly stop they're heart beat.

Hmmm...so I saw some videos just now. I must say it looks affective, but at the same time it seems like another one of those martial arts that at least here in America, don't teach people the right way to do it, and that's what I'm trying to avoid. It does however seem slightly interesting though and I'll keep it on my list. I think though that in the end I'll end up doing either a grappling one like BJJ or an intense standing one like Muay Thai or Savate.

as i said earlier, hapkido would be good. it doesnt rely on body type to do majority of the techniques, but being lean and having some upper body strength is useful.
it focuses on joint-locks, break falls, throws, reverse-controls, and chokes.
