Such a rebellion would last 5 minutes. Seriously, this isn't the middle ages where people could just up and rebel. Believe it or not modern police forces are equiped to handle these sort of things. Let alone if the military got involved. All they would have to do is roll a few tanks into the battle and its over.

A full-scale rebellion would contain aspects of the military, soldiers are not mindless extensions of the government. Guerilla warfare has proven to be extremely effective in modern times, look at Iraq, it would be even worse for the government forces when it's their infrastructure and workforce than is revolting.

I think even the Generals would go along side the public, as our military alliegence is not to the President, but to the Constitution.

I think the American government is already covered there bases just in case. Heck I had a friend arrested because because he said that he wanted Biden in control. Heck a photographer got arrested for taking a picture of the President of America' kids. Now I can't vouch for other people in America but I know where I live if we even say some close to like "Man Obama is upsetting a lot of people over his new deal he better watch what he says or lose his approval rating." Bam your now under questioning for terrorism. But I digress and think we should let this topic go. When it comes to talking about political agendas, nothing ever comes good of it.

Thats the point. Not everything in this world is pink coloured with a nice sugar coating, sometimes facing reality hurts - but it helps.

A lot of you really missed the boat on this article. The only reason Obama was mentioned was because he is the current president of the U.S. and as such would be the current ultimate authority on when to enact certain measures within the bill. He didn't comment on the bill, he didn't say he was for or against it, and there is no evidence one way or another in the linked article that he had anything to do with it being proposed.

The main reason there is a lot of problems in the U.S. (and other countries) isn't because people don't care; it's because people don't take the time to actually figure out what is going on before choosing a side.

Let me quote the relevant piece of the article:
I am not sure about you guys but that seems reasonable.

Guys, the government is more powerful than you think. They could at least do this in America.

No, they really couldn't. Even if you got lawmakers to agree on this (remembering that they use the internet themselves) there would still be tons of people in government that would simply refuse to enforce it.

Assume a few people that would agree to go to the telecoms and force them to shut down- the telecoms themselves would refuse to comply.

Afraid of having them send in the army to enforce the "internet shutdown?" Good luck with that, as, believe it or not, that army is made of people too! Ones that use the internet! You'd get more refusal to obey.

    I did?

Am I confused in believing that removing the cornerstone of modern society would have massive, overwhelming opposition from every direction?
