I've looked into it more and I can't determine why if you have the same file on another computer you didn't have a problem. Only one of two answers to that:

1) The other ISP doesn't give a flying f*ck about piracy. That is certainly possible as only Cox has this strict policy.

2) You downloaded the same file but it was from a different seed. Meaning you weren't downloading a "dirty" torrent.

But I CAN tell you one thing. The torrent you sent me IS DIRTY. It IS being tracked. It tried to take my IP. You must have a dynamic IP to download something like this or it is traceable. Using proxies helps.

 

The KGB knows about those naughty naughty sites youve been visiting. Better not go for president or everyone will know your little dirty secrets.

Very simple:

If it looks like a good game and worth supporting, I will spend my own money and buy it. If it looks like a crap fest and a money making tactic with a bunch of propaganda, I will either read a bad review and not buy it or read an impartial review and pirate it. If it's good, then I'll support the company by buying an expansion or continue buying the series and such.

 

This topic concerns art, however it's not a discussion about the art itself but about how you act with piracy, this goes in The Lounge.

Not to be racist or anything but the reason piracy exists is because China is doing almost anything what it takes to get a quick buck. I cannot blame them though just to put dinner on the table. Same thing is the rest of southeast asia. What i do not understand is that how come its on north america as well ? People can work for money so why just not buy the original ? This is not Philippines where its economically poor.

 

although its more prevalent in asia, western countries still have huge problems with piracy thats homegrown. Its not that people dont have the money to buy this stuff retail but they just dont want to, people suck lol

 

I've pirated all of the above. I doubt piracy really hurts the various industries. People know that quality entertainment costs money. Morals aren't really an issue. Even the most selfish person knows that if he or she wants to see movies, hear music or play games they like - the producers of them must make a profit.

So all game developers, musicians, movie producers, etc have to do is: make quality goods. The only creative groups that have anything to be worried about are those that produce crap goods.

 

Well.... Nate, you have to contend with the means by which the population RECEIVES these goods.

My take on it is that it's time eliminate these POS producers who think they still have a place in entertainment.

For one, I BUY everything I really want. I'm just not gonna go out and buy a bunch of crappy music off of YouTube.

Heck, I'd pay the 30 cents instead of 99 per song if it all went directly to the artist. Hardly any of it does.

yeah no such thing losers! i had to call em up and i then said.... "wtf is your problem i have no idea wtf this thing is that i supposedly downloaded I checked my computer and there is no such file" and the guy says "yeah its on your computer and you need to delete it" so i say "stop smoking crack i come home from work turn on my computer and it tells me to call up some freaky ass costumer service representative for some %$^& i didn't do and he doesent listen to any ^$&%ing thing i say cause he busy shoving ... up his ...." and then he says " yeah i can turn it back on but technically this is your third strike so we at cox communications have to assume the customer is lying in these situations to prevent us from canceling our policy with them so if it happens again your account will be terminated." so i say "well that's great thanks for telling me I'm lying" and i hung up. now my internet is back on and I'm pissed.

who the hell would make a tracker on a file like this? i look it up and its some 10 year old movie made for kids. i mean if i made that movie i wouldn't care if someone stole it because they sure as hell wouldn't buy it.

wtf is these peoples problem? i haven't illegally downloaded anything in like a month.

 

Tweak. I would like you to do me a favor so that I can in turn do you a favor.

I want you to call the company back up (Cox is my provider in Gainesville as well) and record the conversation. Tell him that you have no such file on your computer and you want the "strike" removed. Just record it so that I can actually hear what he's saying.

Also gather an e-mail address that will be forwarded to the correct department.

If you can give me these materials (you have my e-mail I think, or you can AIM me for it) I will write up an e-mail which you can send to them. If that doesn't work, I will then personally step in and see that they delete any record of your download history.

However, the best option I can suggest is to switch ISPs. This is the only company I've heard of that has a policy like this and they have no right to do so.

Trust me, the e-mail will be packed with legal innuendos, privacy rights violations, and very harsh wordings. Take this offer up if you're truly pissed. I guarantee I get something done.

i have nothing agains music, picture, nor series piracy. i do however something against program and movie piracy

 

Yeah. I get angry when someone decides to violate privacy rights. I'm currently very pissed off about the Patriot Act. That thing needs to die.
