They just don't advertise them in the tourist brochures.

And they probably have other words for those kind of places.

@ Fenix, no problem man.... Dizzee is okay, I'm not into British rap much, except for rock music from england.

They are good, but they haven't expose into Mainstream music..... much. (refer to Mos Def and Trick)

Man, if you want to see modern gethos come to latin america, and take a walk downtown, where most of the people lives and struggles daily for a hot meal. Those places are the hell of a Danger if you look like a gringo, have expensive things with you or just can´t stand a streetfight the old latin american way (broken bottles, knives and sometimes guns).

One glorius days my whole continent will break its chains and rebirth, in order to gain the place it deserves in the world...

You sound pretty proud of the "old latin american" way. Whats to be proud about open and senseless violence? Im from Latin American and trully wish it grows to be the greatest place it could be. I only hope it ist the violent latin america that justifies violence with nobles concepts such as patriotism or with conflicts of the past. (In Chile exists "El Dia Del Joven Combatiente", that was made to remember some young political activist that were murdered by police. Nothing wrong with that. What's wrong is that every freakin year some people go to the streets to what can only be described as rampage. They make barricades and fight with the police. Clearly senseless violence (Whats to win?) being justified by those poor activist. Im sure they wanted to be remembered as synonim of violence).

On the other hand... Yes, Latin America does have some pretty dangerous slums.

Yah Australia has it's slums. The most famous one is Kings Cross in Sydney. And Inala in Brisbane. There are other places but I can't remember them now.

Well, if by ghettos you mean a very poor neightbourhood with lots of crime and drugs, then I'm sure all countries have at least one. I'm in Argentina, and we have several of those. If instead you mean a 'hood with gangs and organized crime... then no, we don't have any of those here. There IS organized crime, but its not localized.

There are some rather bad areas that I wouldn't want to set a foot into, but it's quite rare. I couldn't name a "ghetto"-like place in my country.

Me neither, but that's only because I live in a tiny country with largest city pop just over 700,000. Well we have some very dirty places like this neighborhood where gypsies live in trailers and slums and have been selling drugs for years without anyone stopping them

There's a few in Poland. I did a few jobs there and saw quite a few areas that could be compared to the "Ghettos." as you call them. Although generally speaking where ever you find poverty your going to find crime. I'm not saying all the time but poverty does give way to crime in a lot of ways.
