    Another argument:

80% of the people in the U.S. worship the enviornment. Whether Nature is reality or not. We no longer believe in god, but we believe in Scientific theories. Now I don't believe in the bibles version of God.... But i believe that he exist. Just not how the Jews, Protestants,Catholics, and all your other "one god" religions do. The Ten Commandments were made to keep the people who were with moses in check, other wise the story of moses wouldn't exist. It was only made to bring about laws to Jaruesalum; or how over you spell it. This world is now to busy worrying about global warming, and they just forget religion exist. Distraction is a powerful thing. I mean look what they have all done to you. GLOBAL WARMING IS EARTH'S CYCLE. There is global warming, then ICE AGE, then global warming, then ice age. You get the point? I highly doubt it, but I HAVE SPOKEN

This quote seriously changed my life...not like..right now, but back when I read it. It's hard to argue against it really.

I'm a little bit in between whether god doesn't exist period, or whether he made the Earth and moved on. Because looking around, life seems so fantastic to just be chance evolution. Yet all the bad in the world is IMO because God (if he exists) frankly doesn't give a ****.

    Nitesky, believe what you want.

God lets us chose our own destiny. i he halped us out of thigns every time then what do we learn? that we can be irresponsible and screw up things with no punishment?

He is able to, but does not. Sure, because this bad things can happen to good people. but it's part of life. He gave us choices and we act on them. Sometimes **** happens, this isn;t a perfect world. This is trying to pin everythign on God. Solve your own problems, or get help. If God helps one of us he has to help us all and then people take him for granted. He can do anythign he wants, but chooses not to so that we may learn as humans.

The evil came from out own free will. It is the fault of man and not of God. He is God because i believe, and many believe that he created us and calls to us, even if he does not always change things. this world is the domain of humans and it is our job to take care of it.

ho does care, he just won't because he loves us enough to let us try and solve our own problems. if you do everything for people they never learn. you must let them learn on thir own, no matter how hard. that is what caring is.

Kurai, ur not really anwsering this question, this is not a man made cause, only that of an earthquake or lack of rain - a 'Natural' disaster, not an act of man, nor mans responsibility BUT Gods so called responsibility.

WHY would you have patience for a 'being' responsible for this.

Who ever made God responsible for handling earthquakes?

God is said to have created everything. Hence they're his responsibility. For he is said to be omnipotent so they ARE in his control, and hence HE CAN (in theory) prevent them.

Sure, but that doesn't mean He should or is supposed to. Besides, if we're talking about Christian God, He's supposed not to appear before humans anymore before the Judgement Day, so no, He won't do anything.

    Bamber as for your question:
Worshipping God is mostly all about afterlife, not the current one. If you're worthy to stand by your beliefs in face of such disaster, you gain favor in Heaven. However painful it may be your life will eventually end one way or another, so it's better to suffer here for a time than in Hell for eternity

If you come to accept such actions as an act of 'God', the thousands of innocents dieing, and hope to get into heaven, i find that highly ironic. (not you personally :))

But, it is still irrelevant to my question.
"Why would anyone worship a deity that supposedly has the power to stop 40,000 children from dying of starvation every day, yet doesnt?"

What do we learn from stillborn babies? Or children starving to death in Africa? Or genocide?

Evolution has nothing to do with chance.

Everything in the universe is based on chance by the way - pushing ideas of clockwork universe and fate out of its way.

*note* i apologize for all my typos, i'm doing a thousand things at once, so i apologize for my illeterate looking post.

And yes, God made us, and set us on our own two feet.

@babmer: sorry, i didn't see your post. The thing i believe is that God can and would do stuff, but that defeats the purpose of making us free beings with our own thoughts. He doesn't do anything because we are responsible
oh, you're one of THOSE people who want to fight religon by trying to say it's all god's fault in order to keep religious people from believing. Oh, i know that kind of thing xD
that's like saying it's the cook's fault that his customer is allergic to the food served to him. It's ingenious to stun people with little faith, but i personally know what i believe but whether you care or not i shall say it. And who the hell said it was god's responsibilty. I know you don't believe in him, but that is BS. nowhere in the bible of my religon does it say it's God's responsibilty. He takes care of us, he guides us, and sheppards us, but for the decisions they are ours and ours alone. I think you miss the point. If we blame God for all our problems then people will never take responsibilty. that's so narrow minded, people can't just blame God. People never want to blame themselves, and i agree sometimes the bad stuff happens to good people who do not deserve it. but,. that's the way the world works, get over it and stop trying to blame god just because your life isn't perfect. I don't think you're trying to say that; however, you're merely trying to challenge me into thinking, which is what i shall do.

I have the pateince because God has pateince to deal with our blunders. We kill, steal, sin, and lie on a reglar basis and yet he can still love us. We can repent for something and then do it again and still, he forgives us for all our flaws. And besides, it isn't his fault, anyway. God doesn't create the distasters, he lets them happen because this is the world we live in. You can say it's cruel, especially because people starve, and I know that. But look at it; isn't it overall the people's fault some people starve to death? because we are not willing to share or give. Yes, natural distasters are unfair, and it's easiest to blame god, especially because he could stop them. I am of the mind everythign happens for a reason. and if one of you want to retaliate with somethign slnting like "it's destined for people to be slaughtered because some supposed all loving God can'r help" then get off your rocker. I don't claim to understand the way he thinks but i chose to think he cares us. He'd have to not to just strike us all dead for our sinning and corrupted hearts and minds.

Who are we to understand god. You say if he's so "all powerful" all the time. And since he is, what makes you think we can understand him?

Bamber, that was revelant. I said that he let's them suffer for some time so than they can reach Heaven and be happy for eternity. Even if someone lives in pain for years because "God let it happen" it's still nothing compared to eternity he's earned for himself.
Now if you don't worship God, you still get to suffer from earthquakes and such, but when you finally die there's nothing to compensate you for this.

And why would that be ironic? Isn't accepting God's will what we're supposed to do? I don't think one's opinion is really related to getting into Heaven, but if anything I'd say accepting it would give you better chance than blaming God for everything. (Still on natural disasters here, not people killing people)

Besides, hunger isn't really a good argument for discussing God's faults. Yes, it may happen because of natural draughts etc. but we, as humans do have the power to prevent starvation, we're just too busy looking at ourselves to help others. This is a chance for believers to show how good they really are.

Babmer your talking about your own take on what you think the Christian god is which is pointless if it contradicts what people who believe in him actually think. After you are dead is it really worse if you drowned, starved or died of a heart attack or cancer. In the end we all die in the same horrible ways so why would god just stop people dying from things which are more obvious or messy? I.e a flood kills 40000 and the media flock around it and show lots of horrible pictures leading to people decreeing god is malevolent etc etc. But at the same time millions die peacefully in their sleep or painfully in a hospital bed and its seen as normal by everyone.

@Meee. The whole Suffer now and then have eternity of bliss is something which affects alot of people in very negative ways, such as the poor and the oppresed and is a great way of controlling people whether its said through religion or just in daily life (Not on the eternity scale though =P) so maybe you should consider this and question the reason you are taught it (I assume your christian)....Thats one of the things which made me move away from christianity.

I'm Agnostic actually, I'm just trying to answer questions here.

Notice that using this as means to control people is not a Christian way. I mean, it was done by Christians and is still being done by priests too, but it's because they are doing the wrong thing.
I think the "suffer now..." policy was mostly adressed to people living through real hardships (like persecution of Christians by Romans in early years etc.). People use it for their own gains because that's the kind of bastards we are, but all in all you're supposed to follow words of God (don't kill), not people (inquisition)

I just mention it Meee because i don't question religion through its teaching or beliefs to any real extent because quite frankly i just don't know enough about them and i'm sure no one else on this forum does whether or not they are christian. I question it because i am curious how it is still so prevalent in todays modern society and of course how it would originally start. The "Suffer now policy"(As you so aptly named it ) is really one of the only reasons governments (Kings, clan leaders etc) would support christianity and teach it continually down the line because it gives them control and therefore Christianity COULD only still exist due to powerful people teaching it to the ignorant and uneducated (Children, i'm not attacking christians directly =P) or by missionairies being sent out to other lands to convert the people and make them respect the missionaires as you would a saint. Especially since christianity seems to be the only religion which promotes mass conversions of everyone everywhere.

Quite recently a friend was argueing against athiests in front of me and an astounding line he said was (Not properly quoted but on the same lines >>) "If christianity is false why is it the most popular religion " this got me thinking about all of the above things. Also consider that the most powerful nations were the ones who promoted Chrisitanity at the time they were conquering and converting whole countries. Thereby leading to its massive boom compared with Buddhism etc.

Thats my overall take on it at least. (Hopefully it wasn't too dyslexically explained xD) And of course theres the chance we translated something poorly in the bible or was mistranslated on purpose over 2000 years which means we are all doomed anyway ...
