I just got a PM from someone named ManInBlackk or something similar saying i have virus's on my comp and i link.. i m 99% sure this is fake. it listed some other peeps getting the message too
Karaa, this is fine here, it's kinda official that way. Yeah we have been getting reports about the spam PMs, ignore and report them and the user will be banned asap. It should go without saying but there is no way anyone on this has anyway of knowing whether or not your computer has a virus.
I'm trying to find a permanent solution to this issue. But PMs are a lot more complex than regular posts and require more support. I'm turning to vBulletin to fix the issue.
A standard vB feature is that you can disable PM to users with less than so many posts. So perhaps make it so a user has to have 10 posts before they can use PMs? There's the concept of user levels too (which are time and post count based), and you can relate that to the above. So that a user has to have been here one week, say, before they can send PMs.
The idea is to restrict spammers as much as possible and give real members as much freedom as possible. I would hate to restrict new members just to stop spammers. There has been only one instance so far of a PM spammer, I am working to make sure it doesn't happen again.
I can't imagine a real new member wanting to PM several people on its first day of registration. If you limited the number of recipients to 1 in the first week, that should do the trick without hindering legitimate use.
I'd say set it to a low number, like, say, five. That should cover the introductory posts quite easily.
As far as I'm aware the problem has been solved. However, that account managed to send a message to every account, so people just coming on now are finding it.
Hey, I just got a spam message as well from a user named ufcfanboi The message was: "Hey bro as requested heres the web site with the ufc knockout vids http://bit.ly/f67Bt1 'Chaindknita' " Didn't want to click the link, can someone get rid of this guy?
I have a small problem posting on the forum today, not sure what's the cause of it... I opened a thread and post a few times in it, the last time being on 05-31-2011. Today, I tried again to post, but I got a message that I should not post earlier than 30 seconds after the previous post... which was a couple of days ago. I waited for 30 seconds and submit again, I got the message that my post was sent to moderation and it will become visible after that. When I leave the thread there is no way to see if that post is still awaiting moderation or was just lost. My previously posts didn't require moderation and I haven't seen anywhere that I would be banned or something... Any enlightenment? Thank you.
