On the website, it is stated many times that the guide has enough for diamond level. Ideally, I'd want a review from an 'average' player at the diamond league to tell me how true that is.

And was the author #1 in Diamond before? I'd like to know this because the guide claims to cover all 3 races, which for one person, is a bit much unless they're really, really good (otherwise, getting 3 specialists for each race would be better?).

    ---
As for this forum, I'm sure there are many excellent threads hidden here and there, but unfortunately there's no index for useful threads (or did I miss it?) and that would really have helped.

With a few of the more recent updates, I have changed my perspective of the guide. Though I still don't approve of the high price, I think that it is more worth it than before. I was rank 16 Silver when I bought the guide, and through some of the more recent articles, I was able to achieve Platinum, and I am still rising. Basically, my opinion comes down to whether or not you're willing to pay for a guide or not. No guide about a game will EVER be worth the money to everyone. But if you're willing to pay, then I would say go for it. Although much of the information on the site can be found elsewhere for free, Shokz is constantly updating it. I hadn't visited the site in two days and I came back to find three new articles. Basically, the guide is a library of Starcraft II constantly adding new information.

    1. Are the mods of this forum given incentives to advertise something like this?
Because I'm sure is the average user tried to advertise their SC2 guide and say buy it for X amount of $, they'd be banned from these forums so fast.

    2. What does this guide have that you can't already get off the net for free with a good google search?

Yes, we have incentive. Shokz sponsors SC2F events and subsidizes our costs with advertising, which is why we're been able to reduce our overall advertising presence.

And as far as 2. most of the content is available for free. Spread out across the internet. You'd need to visit multiple sites and it's highly likely you wouldn't get the same quality. I've personally gone over all of his content to suggest changes to him to make the guide better, and now he's been working on getting walkthrough videos for Brutal of the entire campaign as well as tutorial videos.

I've reviewed all the guides, thoroughly. I'm also a Diamond level player, so I do know what I'm talking about.

There are a few good guides out there, and a few that are going to be really big soon.

Right now Shokz in my opinion is the best, Joanas is a close second. Then the Starcraft 2 mastery guide isn't half bad either.

I give away some great strategies similar to ones you'd find in those guides at my mailing list, from my website where I've written detailed reviews for all the Starcraft 2 guides. Oh and I've also written a few articles on that same site that have charts filled with unit counters.

I bought Shokz guide right at the beginning when the game came out because I wanted to get an advantage asap.

I was never really good at SC 1 and decided for SC2 to become good by learning proper strategy.

The guide helped enormously as a beginner, but now I hardly use it anymore (currently ranked #1 platinum in EU league.)

For newbies, yes get the guide!

Yeah I'll say that it is really growing, which is getting better for advanced players. If you haven't checked it out in awhile be sure to, he has new strategies added weekly (which were voted on the week before). kind of a cool system, get to pick what you want added next.

Sounds like it did pretty good for you, glad to hear it :)

I've evaluated the Shokz and I can honestly say its top notch and a cut above the rest. I've personally spoken with the owner (John) and he's a great guy, awesome for answering any questions.

So, after a longer time of using this guide. Can you guys tell me how good it really is? The strategies change with patches obviously, does Shok update his guide? Sorry for a bit of necroing, I just want to know honest opinions.

It’s become pretty clear that there’s no way that I can be an expert on all three races. I like to think that I’m a very knowledgeable and talented Terran player, but in order to keep my level of play high with one race, I have to skip the other two for the time being.

Great for beginners who may not know where to start. Has a list of build orders and some terminology to situate a nub. However I can save you 37 dollars.

    1) learn build orders
    2) learn the terminology
    3) watch replays
    4) use map editor programs - unit tester, multitasker, yabot.

Google should find you what you're looking for w/o spending this cash. I think if you follow the above and spend that money on a gomtv account instead you'll be better off. Shokz is great for nubz.

I loved the Diamond Gamer In Game addon, because it actually works from within the game - you don't need to keep clicking Alt-Tab or remembering anything. I found it especially good for build orders.

I love how over the course of time more and more of the guide (any guide in fact) becomes useless because of the changes in the patches.

Shokz Guide is the best Starcraft2 Guide on the web. Many have reached the Diamond Rank using this guide.

I think it is a great guide. I bought it when I sucked at the game within a month of the release. I tried other guides like Joana's but his (I am guessing it is a dude) guide is not as thorough. Shokz has videos. But I was hoping he would make videos of the actually strategies rather than of him just playing the campaign mode.
