    what about anything good for the past 40 years?

    besides the new doctor who seasons

    well, maybe we had some stuff, but our economic system doesnt encourage new ideas that much(if we phail, we still get enough money to live), so lots of cool stuff (LIKE COMICS) comes from amedica

    Lots of extremely popular tv formats originated in the Netherlands. Big brother, deal or no deal, etc. Pretty much any quiz of the past decade are invented here. Why do you think that people like John de Mol are so rich?

    I kow those are mostly lame, but Jaap from the golden cage was brilliant. I mean, he vomited on the floor, rolled around in it with his 200kg naked body, and then started to run into people. Freaking hilarious show.

    Just to clear up. I just mentioned warcraft because it was originally supposed to be a warhammer game, so indirectly it's thanks to Europe ^^

    Oh thank you guys for trying to derail the disscussion just makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside...

    ijffdrie I really can't believe you, either you are being a jackass because you didn't even read what I posted, your being an idiot because you didn't understand my ultimatum, or you are about to go away forever because you did understand it but chose to ignore it. I'll let you decide, but I better see some kind of response from you whether it be in this thread or a PM or I am just going to assume it was the last of the 3 options.

    To everyone else who who seemed to miss what I was getting at, the anti-American sentiment ON THIS SITE is getting old.

    Relax LK, clean the thread and move it to the lounge if you want to keep it on topic. Threads here are bound to get spammed at some point. The board description practically asks for that. Why do you think I insisted on changing it?

    As for the whole insulting Americans stuff: Fenix is the one who started this thread and wrote that topic title.

    Further, I can understand that you feel insulted, but you really are reacting exactly as the world thinks that an American citizen would. You're not looking at others, only at your own country. I know it's a stereotype, and those make me sick, but you behave just like it. I don't mean to insult anybody, this is just an observation and an interpretation by me, of what you think. I could, of course, be terribly wrong.

    Also, do you honestly believe that Americans are the only people being insulted? On this site, and elsewhere? Look around: all Dutch women in Amsterdam would be prostitutes, we all would like drugs, we would be retards for tolerating bad stuff, Mexicans would all be bad, Polish people stupid worker people, Hungarians would all be rude on games... Do I need to go on and start quoting? Nah, I think you're a person with excellent intelligence. You should understand this. If you don't, then I'll be happy to explain further. I'm just requesting this: first start defending other nationalities here on the site. Those get WAY worse insults in the form of stereotypes, but do you hear us complain? No, because we know they are stereotypes used by ignorant people. Not personal insults.

    i also PM'd something along these lines, but i'd also like to state it in this thread
    @Kerwyn, i never said anything about the complete whole of Americans, nor did i say anything about the majority of Americans. The only thing i stated was that there happen to be a great amount of people in America whose saying of dumb stuff gets out in public, for an example Michele Bachman of the republican party and in congress for Minosota who figured it would be interesting to know that swine flu broke out only under democrat presidents, while in fact it broke out more under republican presidents AND is a very dumb thing to say, there is a far greater range of people making these statements in America then in European countries, though there are also a lot here, like the Italian president.

    My other point was that from the Americans i know (Which actually are quite a lot, including my godfather) usually use the excuse, or state others use the excuse "America is still a young nation, so we have mistakes in our first steps" while this is a nonsense argument, seeing as America in its current political form is older then Holland, Germany and many other western countries in their current political form.

    Next point: crazy cults and sects. You got to admit the number of them in America is either far greater or far better covered by the media then the ones in Europe. I also count racist organizations under these ones

    People who think Europe is utopia. It obviously isnt, the economical structure of Europe is also firmly enstrangled by the fearsome Credit Crisis, the number of violence crimes against gay people is on the rise and the freedom of opinion is becoming smaller and smaller.

    you also have to admit that these 4 groups make up a rather large group of the population, the first 3 slightly bigger in the southern states and the latter having a large spike in California. Maybe not as big as my earlier stated 20 and 35 percent, but certainly a noticable portion of the populace

    As you can see, my points have good arguments(actually the range from decent enought to meh, since i really suck at stating things in english) and none of them are race oriented.

    on a note that might get me banned: I think its ridiculous that you threaten to use your mod powers while their have been no racial insults, but only comments on the government and significant voices in the US media. I would even go so far as to state it is strange, though not necesarily on purpose, that you only say this to a non-american person who comments on America, while not commenting earlier threads about Hungarians ruining games and Germans always yelling, which were clearly race-oriented

    I've never liked the "America is a young nation" argument because, quite honestly, have you ever noticed how America kind of went through a lot of its problems pretty early on? Like....immigration and anti-foreignerism is still around, but you're not seeing a Nativist party rising up or a spike the KKK anymore; and mostly the anti-foriegners are confined to the radio and the occasional stupid rant. At least we don't have legislation that makes Hispanics drink from a separate water fountain anymore.

    And a question for our heathen European brethren on this site (turn American damn you!), is Europe just kind of going through its whole Conservative phase right now?

    Well, you cant really talk about Europe as a whole, though some countries are definately linked in their phases.

    @Aurora
    So being defensive when being insulted is a bad tihng? So your saying if I called you a moronic SoB and you got defensive I would be allowed to make you out as the bad guy? Really?

    I am not sure what your suggesting I am doing that is this horribly bad American stereotype. I havn't done anything yet, other than call out something I believe is wrong and ensure the disscussion about it doesn't get derailed. Also, I like this topic being in Space Junk it's a nice little test of self control for some people.

    As for these other stereotypes and insults that are so abundant on this site I would love for you to point them out. I am going to wager they aren't nearly as abudant on this site as you seem to believe. Also, even if they are and I am just not seeing it, that's what the report post function is for, to get the attention of someone who has some authority to change what is going on. Finally, the first group of people I am going to defend is the group of people who have a plurality of views on this site which also happens to be the group that gets hated on the most (from what I have seen) with the least amount of counter argument.

    And on another note Aurora don't tell me to relax, and don't mock my intelligence, it's condescending and doesn't strengthen your argument in anyway. Right now I am just simply annoyed, if it was anything more than that you wouldn't see any ultimatums or threats, you would just see people dissapearing. This site is not worth getting angry over and I don't plan on doing so.

    @Ijffdrie
    There are stupid people everywhere, all of which make dum statements at some point in time. However, if you believe that "Americans" make a significantly larger percentage of stupid statements than Europeans then that is what you are looking to find, because it isn't reality. As for the young America argument I don't buy it either, but then again I don't buy the initial premise that the U.S. has significantly more problems than Western European countries.

    As for your final not ijffdrie, it won't get you banned. So far I have only used the threat of mod powers to ensure that their is continued disscussion and no one tries to get cute with the topic. Also, this may come as a shock to you but I don't actually read every thread that is posted on this site. I did happen to notice and read this one because it was my sidebar with its title. If you think there are other things like this but with different nationalities you are free to point them out to me or any other mod, but don't just assume someone is going to notice and act on it.

    I dont belief there are more dumb people in America

    i belief that with the media in the US and also partially the politically correct "patriotism"-centered education, these dumb people develop weird ideas sooner and get the idea that they should try to convince everyone due to freedom of speech

    this isnt 100% percent what i meant, but as i said before its the best i can do in english, and it says the gist of what i want to say

    LK, the whole reason I specifically said that I think you, as a person, seem like an intelligent person to me. I often found myself in a situation where people felt insulted by me, while that was definitely not my intention. I guess that is just the problem with forums, you cannot see clearly how people feel. Also the reason I almost never use other emoticons then winks and smilies.

    Now why I called your behaviour stereotype-ish. I know you felt insulted, and going defensive is just fine. Hell, this would be a lame discussion without people defending their statements. What I meant to say was that you immidiately defended America. As if it was a personal attack on the nation, and like no other countries suffer from this very problem. Also, I never report these things for one reason: people who make them are ignorant. Stereotypes have no meaning at all, since they almost always fail to reflect the true identity of a group. This goes for the Americans are stupid thing, but also for other countries.
