That's pretty disingenuous. It (he) just owns what is arguably the most important news outlet today, or at least the largest.

If they do build it so close the where the towers fell thats disrespectful because it was islamist extremists that did that. Whether you agree with it or not you have to respect the people of the city and our country. As everyone know if they do build it there it will just become a victim of vandalism among other things and will cause more problems.

IMO its has no use being in that area of the city other then to start !@#$

It would be a good idea in other countries but surely they were smart enough to think about the backlash doing this kind of thing would give. I'm surprised they didn't immediately pull the plug when they realised they were feeding extremists and fox news with another reason to burn a koran and piss muslims off so history repeats itself.

Yeah I mean why don't we pull the plug whenever Fox crowd doesn't like something. Oh wait because we are not a bunch of backward ultra-conservative nutters!

People need to stop thinking that all Muslims are terrorists. To be honest most Muslims believe the same things that make you a good person in Christianity, make you a good Muslim. To say all Muslims are terrorists is like saying all Christians belong to the KKK. These are just a VERY small percentage of what we call the 'extremist' groups.

lol look at the date on the post. Anyways, I think they can have a mosque anywhere they want but near where the towers fell. I don't care if their not extremists, I think its an insult to my country and all the people who died by putting it so close.

So is a Japanese community center in Pearl Harbour or a church next to an abortion clinic that was bombed by christian extremists also an insult to your country?

I think the mainstream answer to that Higgs, would be no. Pearl Harbor happened so long ago, if it was going on right now no one would care because its not nearly current enough.

As for the 2nd part of that... I think most would consider it awesome due to the sharp decrease in people supporting abortions in this country, although I somehow doubt any church would want to build on what they might consider "a tainted site."

I think its reprehensible that anyone thinks that this Muslim Mosque is a bad idea. I don't give a damn what religion you practice, but as a citizen of the United States of the America it is simply unAmerican to deny anyone their right to worship as they please. This country was founded on the notion of letting anyone practice whatever religion they want, where ever they want, whenever they want.

If this country was truly based on "Christian values" well.. that doesn't even mean anything since "Christianity based" can't really be defined by anything else other then "religion descended from the teachings of Jesus," in which one could have infinite debate over alone.

When I lived in Florida from 2005-2008, I had several Muslim friends, and I wouldn't trade that friendship for anything in the world. They sure live a cleaner, purer life then I do. I could only dream of being raised by such a remarkable family that would push me to succeed.

I think almost every religion has its "terrorist" factions. As someone mentioned earlier the Christan's have the KKK... so how is the various factions of Muslims any different?

    Can't really see the difference?

I've had the unfortunate experience of having an acquittance with a real KKK member. Now his own daughters spite him... one even married a black man! A new generation may not be willing to listen to the ignorance of the old, but the opportunity to get away from that ignorance needs to be present.

So many American's have nothing better to do then get angry at Muslims... with so many unemployed. I channeled my energy into this forum, what are they doing?

And people should stop calling it a mosque. It's an islamic community center with a school, swimming pool, basketball court and prayer areas for christians and jews. The only actual 'mosque' part of it are two floors out of the fourteen that are meant to be there.
If anything I am the one who is offended because of the immense bigoted attitude about this non-issue.

@Mako: "I think its an insult to my country and all the people who died by putting it so close." I am sure that the muslims who died on 9/11 would dispute that statement.

Exactly how far away is the center being built anyways? From what I understood by the reactions it was on the other side of the street, but apparently it's a couple of blocks away.

@Higgs Do you even live in the US? I have no hate at all towards muslims but I think its insensitive to the families who have lost someone during the attack that they should build a religious center so close to ground zero. To me its like saying, "Happy 9/11" to those families.
The muslims who died would of course dispute that because they were extremists. Anyways I honestly see no point in debating this anymore here since so many people here think that they are holier than thou in their arguments such as higgs.

Wait, what? How big are American blocks than that this is treated as very close to the site?

Im not at all that religious myself nor a member of the republican party. Nor do I watch Fox News, but then again I don't watch any other major news networks because their so crazy and biased as well. Most of America is probably shifting to a more independent political status because both parties fail so much. -end random rant lol

There was already a mosque near Ground Zero.

It was on the seventeenth floor.

Y'all realize that the reason there's so much hooplah about this is because the rights shot down a bill giving healthcare to first responders right?

I thought the primary reason are midterm elections.

    Entirely possible.

But I see it as kinda a flare to draw attention away from the Repubs being not-so-nice.

Isn't that what I've just said? Besides. Fox news made a news report on this islamic center 9 months ago pretty much praising it. Now it's evil and offensive just before the elections. Fair and balanced my aching butt.
