Ok, I know this is quite simple but some people might need to know. Many years ago when I acquired my 2nd computer I wanted to LAN Starcraft with my brothers and I didn't know how. For all you out there that want to know, here it is.

Connect your two computers together using an Ethernet crossover cable. Plug it into the spot you'd plug your internet in (your network card).

Now you should set your IP addresses (So you can find the game). We will use the TCP/IP protocol. Not IPX.

Open your network connections folder (normally found in the control panel).
Right click your connection and press properties.

Scroll down to the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP). It should look like this:

    Press [Properties].

Set your first computers IP adress to:

Set your second computers IP adress to:

Accept the changes and close all the dialogue boxes so that your back at the desktop.

Now enter Starcraft and host a game using Local Area Network (UDP). If you can't find it, patch your game to the latest version.

You should be good to go!

    Have fun LANing Starcraft!

Remember everyone CROSSOVER cable. A regular patch cable will not work for this purpose.

Also a note about the IP's. They can be anything you want them to be so long as the first 3 segments are : 192.168.0 as that is the standard private network space.

The same thing can be done using a router/switch/hub (all do the same thing) and multiple computers though if you are connected to the Internet use DHCP and set everything to automatic or you will probably break your Internets.

Not always... I've tried and failed that approach. Setting the IP's though normally fixes most problems.

Great tutorial, it's always great to have pictures. However, one thing I'd like to point out is that, in my opinion, you should point out in the title that this is the hardline method.

Hey, if you were in the wilderness with two computers and no LAN cable, you would need this tutorial.

    You could use coconut fibres.

And are we getting attacked by bots?

Or you could just get the program named Hamachi and let it create a LAN environment for you and is really simple to use. All you have to do is login create a room and have someone join it and bam instant LAN.

If you had a laptop with a power supply and a wireless ethernet card and used hamachi to create a LAN over the Internet you could do it in the middle of the wilderness. its called satellites and antenna relays :p.
